I have an old feed sack in good condition and I 'd like to make something out of it,but I'm not sure what. It's too big (long) to make into a carry-all; I've thought of making an apron out of it but I don't have a sewing machine--I can embroider a little but the material probably would be too tough. It could possibly be made into a pillow-anyone else have any ideas? Prairiehawk |

They make great tea towels. pillowcases, aprons, quilt squares, cute clothespin holder, valance, the possibilities are endless. If you make it into something that will not be used and washed often use stitch witchery a fusable web. You can use it for the valance to do hems and just use clip on rings to hold it to a rod. I have some feedsack material that my great grandma started to sew into something like table runners but never finished. I am going to embellish on what she has done and make valances for my kitchen. Good luck with your fabric. I love feedsack material and it needs to be where you can see it and enjoy it, not stashed away in a drawer. have a good day.

Thanks, Becky--I'll probably end up making a pillow, as that would be the easiest. I went to the library and found a book--"Subversive Seamster" for some ideas--don't think I'm quite good enough at sewing for any of their projects, but I love the title. I'd like to make an apron but....it would have to be a very simple pattern, no frills. By the way, how should I wash it? In cold water with mild detergent? Can I put it in the dryer? I'm afraid the heat might be bad for it cause it's old. Then again, it's held up pretty well this long.
