There is an awesome thread going on over in Across the Fence about the pros and cons of tattooes and how we as farmgirls feel about them.
Linda (yarnmama) and I thought it might be fun to have everyone would who like to post pics of their tattooes.:) So, if you'd like to share, post them here!
Hugs
I am fighting with photo bucket. As soon as I get it working like its supposed to, I will post mine!

This is the first one I got on my first anniversary. I have always wanted one and Hubby took me. I picked this because the sunflower is me when I was single. Very bold with a lot of attitude and then the two blue cornflowers are for CR and I once we got married and the vine is the bonds that hold us together without losing who I first was.;)

This one was one I got when I first met my brother. He got one at the same time. The butterfly is for that time in my life when I just wanted to be free. I wanted to make my own choices and do my own thing. Of course, it was a battle to find that independence under the sovereignty of God. It reminds me of the choice I made to get in touch with my brother and to remind me of him and how he helps me to be who I want to.
This one is was written by me. The artist let me write the words myself and he made the template out of my handwriting. I thought it was neat. The "clover" was supposed to be a shamrock, but that is also handdrawn so I can't complain. I think its cute even though it isn't exactly as I pictured it. It doesn't matter its still there for an important reason to me.
Id love to see yours!! hugs

This is the wicked witch of the west. There is a tornado behind her carrying a little house away. She never sees the light of day, because I have scars on the inside of my arms, and always cover them unless swimming. I collect Wizard of Oz stuff.

This is a representation of kwan yin, across the small of my back. She is the Goddess of Compassion in Buddhism. I got her as sort of a coming to terms with infertility. Then exactly one year later. Prego In China women pray to her for sons and beautiful daughters. She is also patron saint to women that cannot reproduce.
It is hard to take a pic of your back without crack showing, so it's a little off.

It's the cover of Wicked. I had no idea that book would end up so popular. Both times, I had the exact picture of what I wanted.

You girls are just too cool. I got mine, of course to say I am happy and free, about thiry years ago, tequilla was involved, and yes I took into consideration the good posibility of some sagging of the art when I'm in my 90's, but what the heck. I'm a dirt-biker chick.

I am about an hr from the Jersey shore. :) I haven't been there in ages. It doesn't take us long to get to Lancaster. :) In all the 15+ years I've lived here off and I, I have yet to be to Wildwood. :) I do love the CapeMay lighthouse though!! hugs

Thankyou, girls. Jessie, the awesome thing about my tat is that the yellow is actualy brighter now, almost a year after the work was done. I think that the irritiation to the tissue miscolored it at first. I have two more tats designed, but will probably wait to get them done when I go back. The girl who did my first is amazing.
BTW...Trish, I love your wicked witch.

Well I don't do photos but I have a dragonfly on the top of my shoulder as a reminder of a great childhood memory the day I was laying on the small tank dam hands behind my head watching the dragonflies fly and I remember thinking to myself it doesn't get any better than this... all's well with the world. Now at age 50 something, I see it in the mirror and have to smile...
also a big butterfly on my backside upper hip! My Mother use to say you have to raise a few caterpillars to get beautiful butterflies (we were her caterpillars/butterflies)
2 Chinese characters one on the outside each ankle one for truth and one for love..
Then my old man's name on my ring finger he's the love of my life and after 32 years(now34 yrs) of marriage I figured why not...
So I had a mid-life crisis! about 2 summers ago others only see the ones on my ankles and finger and they are small....hey at least when I turn 80 you'll still be able to tell what they are!

This is funny to see this post now....I've been off and on about getting one.... I want a small celtic knot, with each of my 5 children's initials in it.... maybe on my right hand ring finger- ouch, or on my back, just a teeny, tiny one! 3/5 of my kids don't want me to get one, lol! My sister in law said something to me at Christmas though.... she said young girls(including her when she was younger) have no business getting tattoos, they should wait until they are at least 45, so that they are sure they will always love what they have. Makes sense to me! :) Getting one at my age (50) I would be doing it for me, and no other reason.

That's definitely something to take into consideration, Brenda.:) I was so nervous about getting one when I first did. Some of them were beautiful and others had me downright scared they were just poorly done. I picked something I liked, and did my research as far as the places to have them done, cleanliness, etc. After the year, I went back to what I had chosen and decided I didn't like it after all. I picked something else and waited another year. I figured I would be having it for the rest of my life, so if in a years time I liked it, then I would be good to go. Finally, I decided on my first one. The poor guys at the tattoo place probably thought I was a nut. I asked to see their portfolios of the work they had done. I asked about the kind of ink they used and what affects it could have on my body. (I never got anything with red in it, because most people who have the posssibility of an allergy, will usually find they have trouble with the red inks). I asked about sterilization and then checked out their shop to see how clean it was and how professional the guys working there acted. I was probably going way overboard with my researching things, but I wanted to know, and after all I was paying for it. ;)
Tattooes have to be something that you like and have done just for you. After all, you are the one who has to wear it...hehe It is so neat to see everyone else take on them. Lots of people object, and of course, that is an opinion to be respected also. Everybody is different. I love seeing the pics!! hugs Jess

What a fun topic!

I got mine to celebrate my 40th birthday (much to my DH's chagrin). I designed it and hung the picture on my kitchen cupboard for almost 5 years before I knew for sure it's what I wanted. I picked my foot because I knew there wasn't as much there to sag
I picked a dragonfly because dragonflies symbolize a couple of important things to me: Self-awareness that comes with maturity (what better way to celebrate my 40th birthday ), and because dragonflies also symbolize positive forces in life, and because they have a such a short life span, dragonflies also symbolize living life to its fullest.
PS: For some reason, Teresa, I KNEW you had tattoos

omgosh! that is so cute!! Didn't it hurt like crazy to have it put on your foot though? Most tats don't really hurt, but some places surely do. I thought I was going to cry when they did my butterfly on my hip, but I have heard having it on the top of your foot is worse! :D hugs Jessie
