I, like many of you, are on a quest to create a life for me and my family more in rhythm with nature...simpler, slower, quieter, organic-er, earthier...more dirt, less pavement...more compost in the compost bin and less manure everywhere else...haha. In that regard, I found this poem in the local newspaper. It gives no credit to the author, so I don't know whose words these are. Perhaps you are familiar with this...I wasn't. It's sweet and sappy, yet relevant and important at the same time.
"What Shall We Give The Children? The open sky, the brown earth, the leafy tree, the golden sand, the blue water, the stars in their courses, and the awareness of these. Birdsong, butterflies, clouds, and rainbows. Sunlight, moonlight, firelight. A large hand reaching down for a small hand, impromptu praise, an unexpected kiss, a straight answer. The glisten of enthusiasm and a sense of wonder. Long days to be merry in and nights without fear. The memory of a good home." (Note to self: no mention here of electronics, designer clothes, toys galore, or a schedule that requires a dayplanner.)

"All shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well."
Julian of Norwich

So nice....not sappy at all. You're right, all us farmgirls seem to be on the quest for a simpler way of life and to help our kids appreciate and enjoy the simple joys in life. The benefits are too numerous to count.

Thanks for sharing that, Rebekah.

Blessings
Catherine

I've been looking for a fresh little something for my blackboard in my entry. I think you just found it for me!

Thanks for sharing that was beautiful.

you can be oh so smart, or you can be oh so positive. I wasted a lot of time being smart I prefer being positive.
