~~ ~~ With as many people on here who don't like okra, why is it that when seeds become available in the stores or online, okra seems to be the one packet that is on sale for a lower price??
Is there something we should know??!! ...poor lil' okra..it's jus' so badddd...

Green beans can't stand em. My DH thought he likes them so he planted two rows of them.Guess what I have been doing for the last two weeks. Yup canning green beans. YUCK! Mom thinks it is so funny because she knows! My hubby said I need to learn to like them. I am 44yrs old I haven't started liking them yet I'm thinking its not going to happen

I have seen years where okra seeds were sold out before any other veggy, and I love okra. This year grasshoppers ate all my seedlings, and it was to late to start more. They sell like wildfire at the farmers market, and since this thread, you who don't like okra are the first I've ever met that said that.

I will eat just about anything. Really. Drives DH nuts when I pick something on a walk in the woods or some other natural place and eat it and offer him some (I love wild edibles) "No, really, tastes like lemonade, try it". But, I will pick every lima bean out of anything and leave a little pile of pure evil on the side of my plate.
We make a difference. |

I have to say it's okra but those nasty little brussel sprouts are pretty bad too. I just love Mangos, but the facial swelling and hives just are not worth it!
how sweet it is to love some one, how right itis to care |

Rhubarb and cranberry sauce! Rhubarb is just sour and yuck, cranberry sauce tastes like tin cans! Pickled beets are the best! I have been canning them the last 2 week ends, don't want to do without when the cold winter winds blow...

| Oh my gosh, I like almost all veggies and fruits, but I do have "issues" with asparagus, beets and mangoes. Mangoes taste like I'm drinking straight from the perfume bottle! Also, although not a veggie, I just hate cilantro! I can't even stand the way it smells! |

Well, I've been called the "salad queen" and there is very little in the way of vegetables or fruits I don't like. Can't think of any fruit I don't like . . . . . . but as far as vegetables go . . TURNIPS!!!!! PARSNIPS!!!!!
Looks like I'm not the only one!!! CJ

i consider myself very lucky... there aren't any fruits or veggies i can think of that i HATE. i have this thing with food... i'm determined to like it ALL so i'll always try something more than once. i feel if i keep trying it, eventually my taste buds will finally give in and allow me to like it. the ONLY thing i still havn't managed to like is liver... and i suppose vegemite, but i doubt i will ever have the chance to try that again.
if i am not absolutely fond of some fruit or veggie, i'll try to find new ways to like it. like raw celery.... it's not my favorite, but making "ants on a log" works for me! (take a stick of celery, spread on some peanut butter, and top with raisins!)

It's so funny reading these. Now, I like Okra (if it's cooked well...and there are some BAD cooks of Okra out there!). I also like parsnips--there is this great little restaurant in Louisville that makes "parsnip fries". Like french fries, only parsnips. And they toss em' with a little bit of cajun spice and YUM. Sweet/spicy goodness.
I also think we hate certain vegetables because of the method in which we have been given them. My poor, sweet, well intentioned mother always used frozen or canned veges and wouldn't know what to do with a fresh vege if it bit her (you should SEE her turn down all the green beans and other yummies I grow). I always thought green beans needed to be boiled to death, to the point that they're just mush, but now I know differently :) My mother always hated brussel sprouts until she had them at the restaurant my husband works at...when prepared appropriately, they're the best thing ever.

| That's so funny and so true Jonni. I swear I'm traumatized by some of the canned vegs we had as kids. Canned wax beans...now there's a taste sensation! And there's nothing like the texture of nice canned peas that have been boiled. LOL Oh dear.. |

I guess I was very sheltered as a kid, I have never ate store bought canned veggys or fruit, always fresh or home canned.

I have to add my two-cents about OKRA! I've tried and tried and tried to eat it...even cooked by friends in Alabama who know how to cook it...still can't do it. I used to hate lima beans, but even those are pretty good with butter and salt. I even got used to "mushy peas" when I lived in England (think canned, boiled peas mashed and mixed with salt and vinegar). But okra...no go!

| I love okra, but I have had all my life and that might make a difference. The same with black eye peas. |

Now that IS a taste sensation, Diane!!! How funny! Mom always had canned beets--it took me forever to realize they weren't REALLY that texture (or shape) in real life, and canned, limp, strangely colored asparagus with the packet mix of "hollondaise" sauce. My dad (only to me) said more than once, "your mother should have been a cook at an old folks home! But, it was the 70's and 80's and all that stuff was in your grocery and marketers pushed instant, instant, instant.
Bless her--when I think how quickly it took me to make dinner last night (even with digging for the fingerling potatoes, cutting green beans, picking fresh basil, blanching, peeling and seeding the tomato for the fish sauce)--only took me 40 minutes from garden to plate to put a healthy, wonderful meal down for my husband and I.
I'm trying to think of some others that I hate, but it's difficult. I LOVE food!

I really don't like Okra. I can eat most anything but my all time favorite fruit is apples.... I worked on an Apple Ranch in Southern California for 5 seasons. It was the best job I have ever had. I went from a taster to working in the bakery.... that was sooo much fun.apple this and apple that...mmmmmmmm goooood
