I have some wildflower seeds that I want to scatter around and I'm debating whether to plant them now or wait until spring. I read somewhere that it is better to plant them in the fall, like they naturally would be planted by Mother Nature, but I don't want to kill off the seeds with the cold weather. What do you think? I live in the wet Northwest, but we've been having increasing colder, harsher winters lately.

Also, would the same theory hold for veggie crops? In nature, a pea plant would drop its peas, not start them indoors and plant the seedlings in the spring. I would imagine heavy losses of seeds might be a problem. Has anyone tried this?

I have done it before. I usually wait until I know a good hard freeze is coming up and sow right before hand. It usually works out quite nice!
