Anybody know how to make those long skirts from jeans where you ripped out the inner seams of the legs and put in triangular patches of fabric in to make it a skirt?

I have seen video tutorials on Utube...if ya search it should be easy to find.
I think you can do it without instructions...but the tutorial is good too.

CathyM- Well I'm wondering how do you measure the fabric that you're placing to go in between what once were pantlegs? Overall instructions on how to do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ladies for all your imput so far!

cool! I knew someone would come up with it...
Now ya got me interested in searching too...just for fun...
I have been thinking about making one lately...so now I'm really inspired.
I think scraps of fabric can be joined to make the long center strip...like using up some fat quarters, etc. fun!!
You could also put embelishments in the fabric or on the denim as applique. I have seen buttons and lace, etc...almost like the look of a crazy quilt design.

ok...I think this is all you need.
It uses denim for the center and is shorter but the basic design is the same.
just remember that ya DONT need the side panels..just the front and back...easy peasy!

Yarnmamma we think alike-I was thinking of doming a patchwork one too-as well as the embellishments. Thank you so much for the links! I'll be studying them to try later in the week-my last busy day this week is tomorrow. Would like to see what you come up with as well!

skirt instructions (as promised)
rip out seams of inner leg and the seam of crotch, back and front, just up far enough so that the crotch seam lays flat pin them down. this gives you an opening in both the front and the back.with the pants laying on a flat surface put a piece of cardboard or a cutting mat (like for quilting) under the opening. place the fabric you want in the opening just under the pants front. pin it so that the pattern you want shows and so that there is enough fabric at the bottom to make a hem. after you have pinned it flip it over and now cut the excess off. you will do the same for the back. sew the crotch overlaps down, sew in the panels and hem them.

Not a problem. Have fun with it. I have taken fabric with a scene on it and centered it in the openings then used the same fabric to patch up any holes in the jeans or just to add an embellishment to them. you can even make a tie belt to go with them with the same fabric.

Any pics yet?? I have a pair of red DKNY jeans from the thrift a while ago. Is is never worn (the tag was still on) I got it for about 1 dollar and the original price was.....98 dollars!! Wow talking about a bargain!! Now I never wear red jeans lol. Just liked it so much. This would be a nice thing to do with it!!

I made skirts from jeans in the 70's. I know questions have already been answered, but I will say that I used as wide legged jeans as I could find, and it helped if they were already well washed and soft. I cut in front of the heavy stitched seams, so it ended up on back of the skirt. Then I laid it out on a table and just began piecing using pins. I did the front first and then the back. Leave plenty of fabric for salvage. Do not use stretchy fabric, but soft cotton or flannel.
Oh, and obviously, mine were patchwork....that is a lot more forgiving in how it hangs, and more interesting too.

Haven't started yet-was doin seasoning of pans as well as other farmgirl type things yesterday but I'm looking at my older jeans & seeing which pair I want to start with. I'm eyeing a black pair right now.......
