I love chickens and have had them for years. They get the bugs in my garden late in the day, keep the ground turned up around the out buildings and add wonderful compost to my raised beds BUT. I just helped a friend butcher her flock, come to find out her city fathers would not stand by their ordinance. Good idea to find out what the rules are, if there are any restrictions to land use BEFORE going to the expense of a coop and chickens. It was a terrible shame,,,but the ladies learned how to take care of another part of farming...the harvest, animal husbandry and anatomy of a chicken.

Welcome! I love my chickens too. They are so fun to watch. haven't been laying as much as I'd like,, but guess they are getting tired. do you know at what age they quit laying? most of my hens are 2 years. I kept thinking it was the heat.. well it isn't hot anymore. Still not many eggs. Have a great day!

Welcome Pamela glad you could join us!
Kathy mine have always laid until about 5 years old. I've had a horrible egg year, not many at all. It could be the weather. With fall coming mine will also molt soon, will go from few to none in the egg department then!

Hi Pamela, I love your town! I got to visit it 2 yrs in a row for the Ford Classic truck nationals that were held in Pigeon Forge many yrs ago. I'll never forget Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg for as long as I live. Gorgeous country! Welcome to the forum! I hope you have a grand time here. Happy farmgirl sister #353
