We don’t need the toy store. We don’t need a TV or video games. We don’t need to go anywhere for fun or entertainment. We have a baby in the house.
Last year when my fifth child was born my oldest son was only five. I had to wonder how I was going to manage so many little children. But what I got was more then a new baby, I got a house full of little mommies. And my son transformed, from a carefree kindergartener, into protective big brother.
Little Naomi has captured our hearts, and made our home a place of wonder. When Naomi smiled her first smile she saw four little faces smiling back. When Naomi got her first tooth a house full of little people were by her side with teething toys, comfort and joy. One little cry, and she’s surrounded by love. One little giggle and our home is filled with laughter.
My daughters rarely play with dolls, we have a baby in the house. My children found such indescribable delight last year when their new baby sister was born. I never knew that all the milestones of a fifth child could be so exciting, now our whole family is caught up in the excitement.
My older children taught the baby to walk when she was just ten months old. My two year old is teaching her how to sing. My five year old could cuddle her all day long. And my son is always giving her lessons about the big world. My four year old is always making sure that baby’s face is wiped, her diaper dry, and her clothes all fresh and clean. When all of the children wake up at the crack of dawn, they keep busy by entertaining Naomi. And I get to sleep in a little longer. It’s so nice to have a baby in the house.
My two year old keeps up a running commentary on everything the baby is doing. “Mommy, Naomi’s awake. Mommy, Naomi wants a snack. Mommy, Naomi wants you to hold her. Mommy, Naomi has buggers. Mommy, Naomi got a penny. Mommy, Naomi got the cat. Mommy, Naomi’s getting the potty. Mommy, Naomi wants to play dress-up.” Baby Naomi was born right after Christmas, when she came into our world; all the other gifts were forgotten. So have you ever wondered what is the best gift you could give your children? Nothing can compare to the joy a new baby will bring.
Well Naomi is growing up fast. Babies are babies for just a little moment in time. So we will cherish these sweet fleeting days of Naomi’s babyhood, because it won’t be long before she is a big sister too. We can’t imagine life without a baby in the house.
"Jim-Bob&Larry is the name of my daughter's new laying hen. My little girl is three and she came up with the name all by herself. I'm Sarah." |

What a sweet account of your wee babes! There is nothing better than seeing siblings loving each other. You have done well Mom!

We, too, have a new baby (Hannah) who just joined the family one week ago. She is my grandbaby. And I feel the same way....everything else pales in comparison to new life....even though my daughter is a little tired right now and adjusting to having two compared to your five! Tonight we were all together as a family, and there four adults and it took all of us to take care of two little ones! Hannah's sister turned three today.
Congrats on your new precious gift. I love the name Naomi.

sarah .. what a sweet story of your little ones. i'm so very excited because our little grandson Lucas will be getting a brother or sister early October .. AND .. he will become a GREAT-UNCLE (Lucas is not yet FIVE years old!) .. the very same week!
now .. i am trooooooooooooooooly LOVING that i will be both a 'grammie and great-grammie' at the same time!
I am loving all the stories our daughter, Wednesday, tells of the delight Lucas is having while planning to be a 'big brother'.
A life-full of joy are all these children! xo, frannie
