I'm in desperate need of a bedroom makeover and I could use some inspiration. I'm doing it on the cheap and I want to avoid painting (I hate to paint!) but I'm thinking maybe stencils or other wall treatment ideas wouldn't be too bad. Anyone have photos of farmgirl style bedrooms to share? I could use some good ideas. Thanks!

Hi, Kimberly Ann!
I don't have any photos, but when we were young, poor and living in military housing where we couldn't paint/stencil/wallpaper, I soaked cotton fabric in liquid starch and applied it to the walls. I did one whole accent wall here or there using clearance fabric or what I had on hand, but you could easily do squares as a border or a "quilt" on one wall. When we were ready to be transferred, the fabric peeled off the walls... a quick washdown and the wall was good as new.

| I've used that same technique to apply fabric to the back walls of my kitchen cabinets and other shelving units. Adds a nice, unexpected touch. And since it's so easy to change out and you don't need a lot of fabric (depending on the size of the shelving unit or cabinets) you can use special fabrics that you might not be able to afford in large quantities. I love doing this to add some flair to a room! |

Oh Kimberly how I wish I lived near you!!! I would come and paint your bedroom for you! I love to paint! I am always asking people I know- do you need any painting done, lol!!! I've seen pictures where you install brackets and drapery rods at the tops of walls, then hang fabric, great for just an accent wall. Stencils are wonderful too, or even free hand painting. Or, how about wainscoting installed on the bottom half of each wall, with a shelf on top that you could display farmgirl treasures? Now, I am off to check out Aprils' pictures!

April, those are great links! I love the headboard and I'm going to make that bandanna runner for sure. That's definitely the look I'm going for in all those photos.
Brenda, I wish you did too and not just for painting! :-) I am the world's worst painter. I did my son's bedroom for his birthday present - he wanted it all green - and now I gotta find a bunch of dinosaur posters to camoflage my lousy job! I've been wanting my living room painted but there's no way I'm doing it. The fabric idea sounds perfect for me.

| Great! Now that I know what type of things you like, I'll see what else I can find. I know I have lots of photos saved to my computer that might work...I'll have time on Wednesday to sort through and post for you. |

I don't want you to think I forgot about you. Apparently when our computer crashed, I lost my inspiration pics. So, none of the ones I wanted to share with you are on this computer. So sorry! If I find others as I'm searching, I'll send them your way though! |
