Madison Joplin (Young Cultivator of Nancy Joplin #8352) has received a certificate of achievement in Cleaning Up for earning an Intermediate level It's in the Bag Merit Badge!

“I was responsible for grabbing the bags before heading out for shopping. I grabbed the bags every time we went shopping. After three separate trips, I discussed with my mentoring Sister, who is my Grandma, that I remembered to grab the bags because we keep them in the car and are really trying not to have to use the plastic ones from the stores. Plus, if we forget to take the bag, it's hard to carry all of the stuff out to the car without one! My favorite bag is the flowered bag. It is so pretty and colorful that it makes me want to use it!”

Madison Joplin (Young Cultivator of Nancy Joplin #8352) has received a certificate of achievement in Farm Kitchen for earning a Beginner level Do You Know the Muffin Man? Badge!

“I tried a blueberry muffin first because blueberries are my favorite. I also like banana muffins. I liked the top better because it is more flavorful than the bottom. Next time I want to try the orange-cranberry ones.”

Madison Joplin (Young Cultivator of Nancy Joplin #8352) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning an Expert level Weaving In and Out Badge!

“I wore the friendship band for a week (actually more because I kept it on in the shower so that it stayed clean). I showed off my creation to my family and friends. I also shared why I was wearing it and why I had made it.

I wore my friendship bracelet until it got really frayed. My Mom said that it was finally too ratty to wear. I wore it everywhere I went. I shared with everyone why I was wearing it and who my friend was.”

Fallon Fischer (Young Cultivator of Christine Kenney #8680) has received certificates of achievement in Cleaning Up for earning Beginner and Intermediate levels of the It's Not Easy Being Green Badge!

"We brainstormed ideas to help the planet and use resources more wisely on a whiteboard.

Mentoring sister (aka Mom) blogged about it here:

https://steamstead.blogspot.com/2025/04/cleaning-up-3-its-not-easy-being-green.html

We are only one day in, but we safely disposed of a handful of razorblade litter, made a dollar selling a stick as a clothes line, re-homed a neglected houseplant, and learned it takes a lot of water to grow food."

Fallon Fischer (Young Cultivator of Christine Kenney #8680) has received a certificate of achievement in Each Other for earning Beginner level Badgered for Books Badge!

"Fallon selected 5 books today for various reasons.

Since February, we have been working through a Book Worm journal which devotes a page or two of discussion prompts and activities for each book she reads. When you fill in a page, you can tear off the perforated corner so Wormie slowly "eats" through the edge of the book. We have been feeding the torn corners to our composting worms in the basement.

Buttons was in the early reader section and is the short, sweet style of book she enjoys reading aloud to her stuffies during school.

Another book was about Exoplanets and space has been the main area of science study at her school this year.

Zero Waste Kids is relevant to her work on the Expert level of It's Not Easy Being Green.

The Tale of Tom Kitty jumped off the shelf because we had just read the Tale of Peter Rabbit which is also by Beatrix Potter.

A Book of Love appealed to her because she judged it by its pink cover."

Fallon Fischer (Young Cultivator of Christine Kenney #8680) has received a certificate of achievement in Stitching & Crafting for earning Beginner level Toys Badge!

"We took advantage of a few days of layover in Grandma and Grandad's city to put together puzzles and work on two games Grandma had saved from her childhood.

We got pretty good at HiQ, a game where you jump pegs to try to finish with the fewest number on the board when you run out of moves.

Hex was a geometric shape puzzle game that was suspiciously similar to Tetris and not quite so addictive.

It turns out stuffed animals are timeless toys and Grandma and Grandad still have a large enough collection to completely bury a grandkid."

"We visited the town library.

Fallon already has her own library card which she used to check out 5 books today (see: Badgered for Books).

We also picked up the library event schedule for May and added a Renaissance-themed comic book event to our calendar."
