Hello all, I am new to the site and very excited to jump in and get involved! I actually became an official sisterhood member last year in November, but then the holidays swept in and took up all of my time. Now, the last of the decorations are finally packed away, and I have a little time to sit down and breathe again. 
Anyway, I am 31 years old, married for 8 years to my wonderful husband. I am stepmother to his two children from his first marriage. They are both boys, ages 14 and 13. The oldest suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and has been a full-time wheelchair user for about 4 years now. It is very difficult raising a physically handicapped child, but we take it one day at a time, and do what we can to give him as many experiences as possible.
Hubby and I have three more children of our own. They are a set of 5-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, and our 4-year-old "suprise package" princess that joined us when the twins were only 15 months old! Needless to say, the last 5 years have been overwhelming, but I survived, and now that they are all walking, talking, and becoming more independant, I can relax a little.
My husband is President and CEO of an engineering company with three (going on four) offices throughout the state of Virginia. He is a workaholic through and through. I work part-time as an RN in our local hospital's maternity ward. I absolutely love my job, it's what I'd always dreamed of doing while growing up, and it's all I ever want to do! Except...
....You guessed it, I am a farmgirl at heart. Along with my dreams of getting married, having children, and becoming a nurse, I spent all of my growing-up years dreaming of one day having a small-time farm of my very own. I've seen all of my dreams become reality, except the last. And that dream is going to be much harder to come by, as my husband has absolutely NO interest whatsoever in footing the bill for my little-girl fantasy! But that's okay, I intend to do whatever I can to make my dream a reality in whatever capacity I am able.
Right now, we live in a suburban neighborhood on the outskirts of town. We have a mere 3/4 of an acre here, but it is cozy, and I've created my own little "country living" atmosphere about the house. We did, however, purchase 5 acres of land a few years back that is abosultely stunning in every way. It is just off the beaten path, set in the valley at the foot of the mountain I've always referred to as "my mountain". When I was 8 years old, my parents built a house a the foot of Tobacco Row mountain, and the kitchen window served as a beautiful frame for our view of the whole mountain. I vowed to myself I would have a view of my mountain from my own home one day. When my husband and I finally do build our house on those 5 acres we purchased, the mountain, MY mountain, will be in our front yard.
Our land was formerly part of a large apple orchard. So, my "grand scheme" plans are to forego the farm animals (much to my husband's relief!) and cultivate the land...I envision a small crop of apple trees, since the land is suited for them, a garden to grow the family favorites and essentials, and a flower-garden. I'd love to do what Mary Jane does with iris...they are my all-time favorite, and I'd love to grow and possibly sell them.
Okay, the topic said "introduce yourself", and I've managed to write a mini-autobiography!  I guess I just wanted to pack in as much as I could so you'd know what I'm all about! I can't wait to meet all of you here, to get involved in any way I can, and to soak in all of the ideas and creativity that seem to abound here!

Little Girl Fantasy's grow up to be Big Girl Dreams...and then they just get stonger in your heart the older you get! sounds like you are on your way, with the land and your plans to build...My husband and I did exactly the same thing...We bought our first home in Suburbia, bought 10 acres of land north of town where I could finally keep a horse or two, in the high desert of Nevada ( where I was raised) with plans to build a straw bale home and then a fork in the road appeard! Now we are on the East Coast with two healthy children, near hubby's family, living near the ocean with a little summer place to call our own. New Enlgand is full of small little farm houses and little farms... I keep my eyes peeled... My hubby told me when we moved... our dreams did not die, they merely sleep...Be open to possibilities and keep a grateful and hopeful heart along the way!
In the mean time you'll what all of us farmgirls do!

Hi Christine Glad you have joined the group. Just think with all you do the kids even the one in the wheele chair would love to plant and grow if no more then a few flowers from seeds. So then all of you can live the farm dream.. I am just a little more south of you in Williamsburg Va. the best to you. Lilly
