What an amazing group of women you all are. I just want to surround you all with great love and happiness. After spending some time with you all last night, I felt rested and peaceful.

Darlene, how well I understand your situation. I was able to get out of an oppressive and abusive marriage years ago. Please know that you are a beautiful person; I'm sorry your husband tries to take that away from you.

Peggy, I use a dehydrator to dry my herbs. I'm going to pull down the one that works with a fan and see if that does a better job than the one I used. How do you do the drying in the microwave? Hope you are feeling better.

Blessing and joy to you all, Suzanne

Hello my sisters...
Just finished eating and this is what I made from my garden:cucumbers with red and yellow tomatoes and green and purple basil. Those yellow ones are to die for. Yum! Then I cut up eggplant, zuchinni, yellow squash, tomatoes and garlic and sprinkled olive oil on and baked it while my chicken was baking. I have some left so I'll take it to the porch tonite. See you all there.

Peggy...My chocolate queen...I made delicious dark chocolate cupcakes just for you...run to the porch , I won't put them out until you get there! LOL! I also made bannana muffins for the morning

OOPS...I wasn't finished. LOL!

Ruth...Did your peach butter get thick enough? Can't wait for the pear butter recipe. Did you start your quilt blocks yet?

Suzzanne...You were lucky to get out. I know I should have but I wasn't strong enough to do it. You know what I mean.

Thanks to all my sisters for everything you say and do to help and encourage everyone. You all have been my blessing and I pray for you all daily.

Working 11 1/2 hours girlfriend and dealing with all those people...You need a medal! Been there 1 to many times and don't want to do anymore. LOL! Hope you recouped.

My tomatoes are loaded but only ripening slowly too. My eggplants are the best ever. I picked 4 today. I only planted 6 plants but next year I will plant more. I could eat it daily.

Hugs and Blessings,
Darlene,
Sister 1922

Suzanne...I don't have a dehydrator any more...but when I use the Micro-wave...I first take
my herbs and wash them good, then spread them out on a mound of paper towels to dry for awhile,
then I take a bunch of, lets say Parsley for example...cut off the stems, spread a layer on a paper plate,
cover it with a paper-towel so if there is any moisture left on them...the water won't cause the
Microwave to arch. Then I set the timer for 90 seconds on high. Check them and if they are crispy
dry...they are done. If not I do thirty second zaps until they are.

I love the smell of basil drying! Do you grow the Greek Basil?

Hugs,
~peg

Darlene, Peach butter was a little thin - but spreadable, and it does stay where put.
I have not started my quilt blocks yet, but have the fabric and the block picked out. Trying to finish Brittany'a quilt before I do the blocks - UGH!!!! So close, yet so far away. I changed my mind on one of the borders yesterday as I was getting ready to sew it on - didn't like the way it looked - had to go to quilt store for different fabric - so will try again later today.
Hubby is taking me to a Play this afternoon. "I hate Hamlet" is the name of it - supposed to be really funny! Hope so.
Hugs, Ruth

Ruth...I love to go to plays! Haven't been for awhile but we use to have this really cool
Italian Dinner Theater in Portland OR called Sylvia's and my husband and I went there many
times for a great play and wonderful food. I really miss that place. They closed there doors
after 35 yrs (or something like that). I took my Bible Study Group there a couple times too
because you could always be assured that the plays were good clean intertainment.

I think the last play I went to was "Little Women" at a small Community Theater here in
Vancouver and it was really well done. Now, you've got me wanting to go to a Play again.

I use to Act and Direct in High School and then for years and years in Church. But somewhere
in my 40's I could no longer memorize pages and pages of lines any more. That is when I quit.
I think my last play I had 12 pages of script and it about did permanent brain damage. LOL

Enjoy your play and a day away from the work. We all need to Play as hard as we work!

Hugs and Blessings,
~peggy

Peggy, The play was real cute. We live in a small town and really have some neat things going on here! Community Theatre being one of them. I can't even speak in front of people, but I do enjoy other peoples talent and braveness I am a behind the scenes type of gal - never the limelight. Sometime the plays are a little "adult", but then that is who they play to. We also have an awesome children's theatre in connection with Blue Ridge Community Theatre. If you have a minute you might check it out on the web - that will really get you fired up! LOL!
It amazes the talent that some people have (and energy) - and thankful that they use it to entertain people like me.
The last play they did was "Run for your Wife" - talk about funny and energetic - I laughed till my face hurt!
Well, I need to go sew - talk to you later!
Get back on stage girlfriend - or go and be a stagehand or director
Hugs, Ruth

Ruth, that sounds like such fun. I am so glad you had a nice day. There is a play house in Crossville Tn. I have always wanted to go to. They put on some really good plays. But have never had the chance to get up there to see one. I hope you get that quilt done. I have one I started and need to get finished. I just can't seem to even think about a quilt in this weather. I have all the blocks done, just need to do strips for the outlines and sew all together. I might have to hand sew because I can't get my sewing machine to work. The tension is messed up. And I don't know enough about them to get it going.

My oldest DD Heather and Kansas came thin morning before church and helped me rip up more sheets for my rug. Kansas had so much fun pulling them across the room. It helped me out alot. Then my youngest DD Abby came by and we made homemade tortillas ans had fajitas. Red peppers and shallots from the garden. My own beef. It was good. Then we got on-line to look at wedding stuff. I think I will make her bouquet and the boutineers for the groom and my hubby. She just wants some daisies and maybe some ivy. I can do that. I sure wish we had more time. Less than 2 weeks now. Why do they want to do this to me? Why? Most people have a year or so. I have less than 2 weeks!

Ruth...I did apple butter in the crockpot and it was thinner than the peach butter but still both tasty. Everthing is and it flys right to my middle. I need to get back on track and watch what I'm eating. I don't want to get back on stronger BP meds again. I love plays. Lucky you to have one locally. I was in plays in HS but I'm a behind the scenes person also, so Peggy can get out front and we'll support her and cheer her on! I need to get my block material tomorrow. I'm going to applique the blocks. If this turns out okay I think I'll do it again.

Peggy...My old church used to get season passes to plays every year and my girlfriend and I always went. We did the matinee shows and then we shopped and ate and shopped some more. Sadly she lost her courageous battle with breast cancer at 50. I miss her so much. The theatre has since closed also. Peggy you could join the next quilt block swap and embroider your blocks. I bet they will do a christmas swap. Perfect for your redwork! I'm going to dry my herbs like you did in the micro. This year I have lemon basil and purple basil too. I was in the grocery store after church when someone taped me on the shoulder. I expected to see someone I knew. I didn't. The lady said "You look just like Paula Deen." I laughed and said" I wish I had her money." LOL!

Kris...You'll do it girl. Mothers always pull it out even if you could ring their necks in the process. LOL!

Plays, quilts, gardening, church groups, and on and on -- such wonderful busy ladies. Hugs to you all.

I prepared and froze 4 quarts of carrots and 7 quarts of beets. The carrots were purple, red, orange, white, and yellow. The beets were red and white striped and yellow. We're having some of the yellow for supper. And we dug the first potatoes of the season tonight. I had forgotten that they would be purply red skinned. Quite fun.

Take care, Suzanne

Suzanne...are those an Heirloom Potato?

Darlene...I told you that you looked like Paula Deen! And I wish you had her money too! She
might object to that though! LOL I am not a quilter. I would love to be but I don't
sew. I have hand quilted small baby doll size blankets...but I really don't know what
I am doing. How many squares do you have to do? I can for sure do the Redwork...but
give me some more details.

Ruth...with my Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue...I couldn't do even behind the scene stuff any more. That
is also a lot of my memory problem too (though at the time I didn't know it) but Fibro patients get
what is called Fibro Fog...and it is hard to even articulate sometimes what you want to say. And half
the time you don't even think it correctly! Your mind is just fuzzy; is the best way I know how to
describe it. But hey, I will go check out the web site for your Theater Group...Just for the fun of it.

Kris...I planned my own wedding 25 yrs ago...in only three days. No it wasn't a shot-gun wedding. LOL It can be done my friend! And it was beautiful! We had it in a small wedding chapel in Spokane. It wasn't a big affair just family and friends, about 50 people. But if I do say so myself it was one of the best weddings I have ever been to. That sounds funny, but I am totally serious! And everyone in attendance said that the love and joy was just palpable in the room. And this little Chapel was just breath-takingly beautiful inside. It didn't even really need the flowers...it was so stunning. ~ As a mom...yes, I can see where you would prefer more time but I only shared to say..."Take A Deep Breath and go with the flow. It will be Perfect!"

Well, I need to go away now and rest. Hugs to my Garden Angels,

Well, speaking of weddings, I also had a very inexpensive wedding. My SIL made the cake, my friend's brought the punch and nuts and mints for the reception afterwards. I bought my dress for just $50. It was still very beautiful.

I need advice from you ladies now. They are getting married at 5 on a Friday. We really don't have alot of money to spend on food. They also just got the chapel package for 15 people. Thay want to have a reception later. That's what I need to know about. Would it be ok to just have it later like maybe 7 or 8 and just have cake and punch? Or should we have it right after and have real food like BBQ? I just don't know what to do. They will have alot more people coming to the reception. Jason's parents said they could have it at their house. They have a beautiful backyard. What would ya'll do? I will listen to any and all advice and suggestions right now. I just need help!

There's is not a "shotgun" wedding either. They just thought it would be fun to always have a long weekend for their anniversary. I know. So now we rush.

Hello Ladies,
Sorry for having been away for a bit. Life has been busy. I did figure out how to get the morning glories to blossom- threaten them. I told them that if they didn't bloom by the weekend I was going to pull them up because they are making too much shade by covering a fence along the east side of the garden. Well, the next day they started blooming!

Darlene- I may be in your neck of the woods next year. My middle DD is looking at grad schools in Phillie.

Ruth- I am looking forward to doing some quilting this fall and winter. I need to make quilts for the 2 newest grandbabies. I ask the family members from each side of the baby's family to give me their old bluejeans. Then I cut up the jeans and make quilts. Because I need to make 2 quilts I think I will just do simple 9 patch squares. The quilt I made the oldest GD was more invloved, but I don't have the time since there are now 2 babies 3 months apart. My dad passed away 10 years ago and I have a pair of his jeans that I use in the quilts. I cherish the squares with his material in them.

Kris- My second DD gave us 2 month notice last year that she was getting married at the end of August. What a whirlwind! My favorite memories are the way the entire extended family chipped in to help with everything! I bought the flowers at the farmer's market the morning of the wedding and my SIL made the boutineers and bouquets while sitting in the reception hall before the wedding! We all contributed to the menu- an Italian buffet. It was an outdoor wedding in a county park. It was so cold that day! Who would have thought that in late August in New York State would be in the 60 degrees?

The garden is doing well. I made lasagna for dinner last evening. The sauce was from the garden- tomatoes, peppers, onions, carrots and basil. The garlic was from a freind's garden. I think the cocumbers are just about done. They were very prolific this year, but now are mildewy and tired out. My volunteer winter squashes seem to be delicata, which is interesting because I never planted them in my garden. Where the seeds came from is a mystery. I have not been to visit my other garden which is 4 hours away at my mother's house. Mom can't get out to the garden but she checks it through her window. She says there is something big and yellow that I need to come and take care of! I will be there next week and see what the yellow thing is!

Night all!

Kris...I would just do cake and punch and let the in-laws host it their back yard. That way
everyone feels like they got to help out and be a part of the kids big day! Allow some pressure
to be taken off your shoulders by accepting their backyard offer.

Blessings,
`peggy

I agree. If they are offering and willing to help it's a win-win. They get to be a part of the wedding and help out and ease the burden.

UGH! My cucumbers has powdery mildew. I started spraying milk on them. Any other ideas?

Pam, have you ever tried Diotemacious Earth? I don't know if that would help with powdery mildew though. Isn't it really damp out there in Or? What about vinegar? I hope you get someone else who knows about that stuff.

Thanks, ya'll. I think that's a good idea. And much less stress on everyone on such short notice. The wedding chapel offers a reception room but it's alot extra. And we are responsible for decorating and cleanup. So we might as well do it at the in-laws place for free, right? I hate to sound like a tight wad, but I am. So I am trying to be as frugal and nifty thrifty as possible here. We are no Clintons for sure! I do have a friend who makes cakes. We are trying to get ahold of her to make the cake. They want a Harley cake of course. I made my sisters wedding cake years ago. It was 3 tiered. I can't believe I did it. I might try to make the grooms cake though.

Anyway, how about decorations? Abby works at a textile plant so maybe she could get some pretty material for the tables. And there are plenty of wild flowers and zinnias around right now. And I will be making the mints. Real easy to do. I have a good easy recipe from Paula Deen.

There you go Kris...it is all coming together isn't it. Sounds great all ready! Just remember "that less is more"...the wild flowers and zinnias would be beautiful.

Pam...I went out to pick squash late yesterday afternoon and the leaves on them are starting to decay too. I think it is just that time of year that the Gardens are going to start dying off. I am not seeing any new blooms on my squash..that is telling me that they are pretty well done for the summer.

Hey what do you girls plant for fall and winter? I keep hearing you all talk about it but I have only done summer gardens. We have pretty mild falls and winters here so we could probably do late gardens too. I could use some ideas.

Thanks Garden Fairies...
Peggy

Lida...Where in Philly? We will definately have to get together. I'm 100 miles north. I hope you're not riding your bike there? LOL! Did you recoup? My morning glories are blooming all over the place...even where they were'nt planted! My garden is still going strong. It's been pouring on and off for 2 days. My squash grow like crazy when it rains. I love lasagna! Yum.

Kris...enlist everyone you can to bring a covered dish. I read somewhere that in some parts of the country this is the norm.
Really ,spending a fortune on a wedding is such a waste. It won't make them any happier. Simple is best.

Hello ya'll. Thanks so much for all the good advice. Abby called last night. Her soon to be MIL has rented the Lion's clubhouse for the reception! We'll get it for the whole day. We are going tonight to talk to her and check the place out. We'll see what kind of food to have then. She said she had suggested like finger foods and veggies and fruits. Plus cake and mints and punch. So I am glad she has done this. And me and my mother and best friend and Sheree can make most of the food. The clubhouse will be cool and it has a fridge. So we can go that day and decorate and bring all the food and have that done. I think this will be perfect. We'll have plenty of roon and be nice and cool too. Thanks so much ya'll for all your help.

Now does anyone have a good wedding punch recipe they'd like to share?

Peggy, I would love to have a fall garden. I need to pull all the weeds out of my 3 raised beds and just use them. Because it looks like I will not have a tiller any time soon. I could borrow my DD's though and do a little patch. I want Brussel sprouts and some cabbage. And of course some collards and turnip greens. Gotta have those.

Hi Kris, I know the wedding will be beautiful. So glad you feel more relaxed about it now. Glad you got the use of the facility, that way no worries about the weather either. Plus you can decorate and not worry about every thing blowing away LOL!
I understand about this Saturday at the Farmers Market, I thought it would be hard for you to do time wise also. They are open during the week - they open at 9 am. We need to set a date that's good for both of us and we'll do it! They don't have any baked goods on Monday, in case you are interested.
Hugs, Ruth

Pam, I have kept a garden journal. All I'd have written in this year's is "It was a bust! Too hot an dry and tiller broke and weeds were taller than me." That's it. I did get tomtoes, peppers, squash, okra, and a few other things. Plus I still have to dig up onions, potatoes, beets and sweet potatoes. And I do have some carrots hiding out in the weeds. I picked a handful yesterday too. All in all though, it was not a good garden year for me. I have a good garden about every other year and I do the farmer's market then. But not this year. I went yesterday to the FM and there were only about 6 vendors there. It was sad. But one guy said it's been really good with lots of vendors. They must of just been lazy yesterday.

Ruth, I know everything will be just beautiful. I am going out tomorrow and look around. See what I can come up with. This really is fun. I can't wait til next week now. To put it all together and get it all done. It will be exciting. My mom will be here tomorrow and she will be a big help.

Pam...Garden Journals are fun to do. I don't keep one every year but I do love to do them.
It is really fun if you make it visual too. Keeping your produce and flower packets,
taking pictures or hand-sketching. I like to sketch-out where and what I plan to plant
for the year. You can make it whimsical or Farmer Pam serious...I think you're more
of a whimsical girl though because you are so artistic and crafty. But YOu go Girl...
think you'll have a blast doing it.

Kristin...I bet you will be glad when the Wedding is behind you. But don't forget to take time to
enjoy all the special moments along the way with your daughter! It is the Little things
in life that are really the Big things.

My garden is winding down...but I am trying to get the very most out of it that I can. It sure didn't
come close to last years bumper crops but it wasn't a total bust either...so, I am happy! I have decided
not to do a Fall/Winter Garden...I need the break myself and I know the ground does too.

More later...
