I agree Claudia. Sometimes you can do all that you can humanly do, and then all you can do is wait. Sorry for the misunderstanding! I just meant that I don't believe in fate, that some things are just destined to happen and you have no control. Shirley Jean, I think everyone can look up to Elizabeth as someone who can inspire us to be more positive and uplifting. God's Blessings, Megan aka Loretta Rae

Ladies, I love all that each of you have said! The Eph verse holds a spot in my heart. Sometimes, most times, all we can do is our best and then stand. I understand also tho, we do need to try our best as unto the Lord. Often times, at least for myself I am my own worst enemy!!This is an area I am trying to work on. Have a great day! Blessings, Linda

Hi all. I've been busy and now I'm having trouble with the site. I am not able to login at the top, only when I go to reply to topic. Anyway, about Elizabeth.
I find it very interesting that there was no prophetic word for 400 years-the end of the old testemant-until Elizabeth saw Mary and that 'famine of the word' was broken as God spoke through her.

Cari - that thought led me to read about the time between the Testaments, which is briefly covered in a few pages in my reference Bible. That is a very interesting thought you have....when the famine of the word was broken it was by the Holy Spirit working through Elizabeth and her unborn child....and we see the beginning of what will become the trinity. So interesting! Oh how I wish I knew more about the Bible!

Jeannie, when we have a hunger, the Holy Spirit will teach/satisfy us. Press in for it. Hunger is something that must be nurtured, or it fades away. Remember that we are coming to Jesus and not just words on a page. The more I know, the more I know I don't know. God truly is infinite in wisdom. There is always so much more.
Jesus as an unborn baby came into Elizabeths presence, and the Holy Spirit moved her to speak prophetically-Rev 19:10 (NLT)'...For the essenceof prophecy isto give a clear witness for Jesus.' (NKJV)'...For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.'
interesting

Cari - I have been hungry for many, many years about God's word, and new doors just keep opening! Praise god! My hunger is always filled, and the Word never fails.
I wish there were a bible study called the 400 years....where we could learn more about that time between the Old and the New. But it may not be important....what the Word is, is sufficient.

How true! Jesus just in time! My husband and I used to laugh at that phrase. From what I understand time means nothing to God. Since we live in the time He created we just have to wait until He knows that the time is ripe for whatever it is we are praying so hard for. But since the clock continues to tick, we continue to watch the hands move and wonder "When Lord?". Trust is not easy to maintain in the goodness of God. PS I am glad to see this here. I was wondering what I could and could not say since religion is one of the no-no's mentioned.

Cherime, our priest, who was also our religion teacher for part of the past school year, told us a story about being patient with God. When our priest was a boy, he prayed every night for a bike for Christmas. That was all he wanted. But his parents didn't have enough money. His Grandpa told him that all in due time would the bike come. I don't remember the rest of the story, but it's a good example of sometimes waiting will just have to do after you pray and do whatever is humanly possible. God's Blessings, Megan aka Loretta Rae

Luke 1:26-2:20
Wow Mary and Elizabeth. First, Mary, how great her faith to believe and trust that she would carry the Christ. Elizabeth to give birth to John the Baptist. When I think of this it just puts me in awe, the absolute glory of our God and what he can do. Kind of makes me almost speechless, note I said almost .
I really can not even imagine what Mary must have felt, the amazing love and glory, yet the fear of the responsibility that was given to her had to at times be overwhelming!!
Welcome newbies! Oldies I apologize for the slowness on my part. Getting to be a busy time of the year right now but lets talk about Mary!!! and Elizabeth a bit more. Rae

All the things that Mary had to ponder regarding her beloved child. I would imagine that wondering what was going to be the end result must have occupied many night hours. I know that it is bad enough worrying about the kids as it is. I know I trust Him to handle things but worry, wonder and fear can creep in. The same for Elizabeth as well.

Ahhh, the Christmas story. I know it so well! It is a story of hope and new beginnings. But I think that it also shows us that good things happen if we put all our trust in God. Mary must've been so scared, but to have that kind of trust to have God's baby takes a lot of faith. God's Blessings, Megan aka Loretta Rae

Oh, this is such a blessing! Thank you!! What really blessed me last night as I read this is Mary's praise "...My soul praises the Lord; my heart rejoices in God, my Savior, because he has shown his concern for his humble servant girl." Servant girl? That's me! He cares for "humble servant girls"! I don't know - it just really touched me and I felt a moment of connection with Mary - the mother of our Mighty Lord. Also what resonated with me was the sense of kinship between Mary and Elizabeth - a sisterhood. It was a beautiful passage that filled my heart and thoughts with wonderful images. Now that I've said all that I'd better double-check - am I in the right spot, Luke 1:26-2:20? |

I just finished The Secret Life of Bees, and one of the ever occuring topics in the book is Mary. It was not a very traditional view of Mary, but I loved it so much! The women in the book believed that Mary was always within us, not on the outside, and that she is the little voice inside of us giving us strength. One of the main characters told a story about Beatrix, a nun who ran away. When the nun went back to her convent, she said she wanted to go back. But the head nun said, no, Beatrix is over there, sweeping. Beatrix looked over and saw Mary The Blessed Mother sweeping. The idea was that Mary was a stand in Mother for the girl. I like the idea by Mary giving birth to Jesus, she became a mother to all of us. After reading that book, I hold a special place in my heart for Mary. God's Blessings, Megan aka Loretta Rae

I hope we are continuing this study. I really enjoyed it when we were really active. And I needed the urging of my fellow sisters to read & THINK!
I was afraid to say anything about Mary, because some of my feelings I have never heard before.
Even though Mary desended from holy lineage, was betrothed to Joseph, & was to have a good life, what was the feeling in her family when they found out she was pregnant? I'm sure Mary told them she was visited by an angel, but did they believe it? Were her parents afraid of Mary's & their reproach by neighbors? Even though she was betrothed to Joseph & could have been pregnant, did they feel it was better for her to travel to Elizabeth's house to "take the heat off" of her situation? Maybe things were different back then than now, but I am aware that Joseph was "going to put her away quietly" & thought she had betrayed him. I don't think this was a comfortable time for Mary or anyone involved, until God clued them into the plan. Just a thought.
