Amen Claudia. Also at the cross the only male there was John. Only the women stayed regardless of the stares and jeers of the others. Mary may have felt unworthy, who knows. But Jesus deemed her worthy of his love and attention. Sure glad that He sees us all that way.

It seems we have come to an empasse. I daily have a scripture sent via email from biblegateway. Weekly, they also have a newsletter study about the women of the Bible. Since we seem too busy to continue on our own, if you are interested, you can sign up for the women's study at:

I hope that we can persevere and finish the scriptures that were listed on the first post. I love bible study, and tomorrow I will take us into the next scripture listed if you all want! Even though I did not begin this, I hope there are enough of us to finish it.

I love online bible inspirationals, and I get two of them daily, but I want to finish this. I think it is important. Love to you all!

Next: Is it John 11: 1-44 and John 12: 1-18? Those are a lot of verses, but we can do it!!

I'm still here... I try to make time to read the nuggets you ladies post - haven't been able to post much though -life became unusually hectic over the past two weeks and I had computer issues at work and at home

One of the things I love about Mary Magdalene at the tomb- God chose a woman to be the first one to experience the Glory of the risen Lord. An imperfect woman, who in her time was probably not esteemed very highly. The possibilities for us are endless.

I'm here to continue Jeannie. I gleaned a lot of pearls through the ladies. I think God would be pleased that we would persevere to continue regardless of what is happening in our life. AND STACI, I have wondered how you were. Haven't seen you come across my screen. You are one of my favorite farmgirls and I'm glad to see you are back!!!

Thanks Claudia, I have truly missed being around and appreciate your sweet words.
I got in a bit over my head lately but I'm coming back to the surface now. And studying God's Word with you ladies is something that helps keep me afloat.

I'm ready when you are Jeannie - thanks for persevering.

I'm here! I want to make time to continue this. I take a theology class at school, and I love discussing without being afraid to voice my thoughts.

Well, is there any more thoughts on Mary Magdalene? I would think there might be some more to say about her from other areas of the gospels.

Our new verses from the book of John are about Mary and Martha. Favorites! I have pondered the scriptures about these two women, because all my life, I have tended to be a Martha, and thought she got the short end of the stick. But each woman served Christ in her way, and the lesson I learned was that though we serve differently, we cannot expect others to serve in the way we do. Our gifts are different. These women were the sisters of Lazarus, whom Jesus raised from the dead, so you know that Jesus knew them all very well. Can you imagine what it would be like to be a personal friend of Jesus? Luke 10: 38-42 also tells us of Mary and Martha. One sister was brave enough to sit at his feet in a room of men, which was not the custom (culturally it was men only) but Jesus opens the way for women to sit and worhsip also by alllowing Mary to stay and listen.....and even perfume his feet....(feet got very dirty on the dusty paths then I imagine, and it was a wonderful thing to have them cleaned)... meanwhile Martha is trying to get a meal ready.....I can just put myself in her place. :)

Shirley Jean, first off, very nice reflection! I have to agree that all of us serve differently. God gives us all different gifts, and it's our job to cultivate these gifts in the right way to serve God. I also think this shows that sometimes in order to serve, that sometimes we must push boundaries as Mary did by being in that room with Jesus.

I have had struggles with these two women all my adult life. Being born in the 40's and raised in a denomination where "works" were important in attaining heaven, I was a Martha to the core. Even the books I read had to have value...they just couldn't be frivolous. Geeeeeezzz. I felt sorry for Martha many times, as she was struggling to get things ready to eat, & Mary was slacking off any duty to get lunch ready. It irritated me that Jesus would say ...."Martha, Martha, you worry about many things, but Mary has chosen the better things" in Luke 10. The account in John speaks nothing of that, but emphasizes Mary, pouring the special oil on Jesus feet. As I have meditated on both women through the years, FOR ME.... we are to be both Martha & Mary. Martha was a doer, a giver, a worker. Mary, in a different way, was a lover, a receiver. Personally, it was always easier for me to give, but had a hard time receiving...anything. Maybe I felt unworthy, not sure. But Jesus asks for us to accept Him, follow Him, receive His Holy Spirit and other gifts from Him...especially the gift of salvation. Doing follows because we have received...not just because it is a duty or expected. Not sure that I made myself clear, but my wish is to RECEIVE (like Mary) the life and gifts Jesus has for me, and then to DO (like Martha) the work He has for me to do.

I like that Claudia - not sure you could have said it any better.

I, too always felt like a Martha.
Doing, doing - "well, for heaven's sake, if we all just sit around, nothing'll get done." : ) ** That's a direct quote from my busy brain a time or two.**
The thing I always envied - Mary's peace. Often there seems to be so little of that in my life and when I do try to take the time to sit and listen for my master, I'm overwhelmed with feelings of guilt. And I know that is not from God.

I think my Martha side and Mary side are getting ready for a battle and I need your prayers ladies. My husband just found out yesterday that he won't be needed at his job at year's end. I know God has us in His hands and has an awesome plan for us. But "Martha" wants to runs ahead and find answers to all the things that will come out of this. I want "Mary" to win and allow God to lead us. I need PATIENCE and my faith needs to grow. So, I would deeply appreciate your prayers. I'm heading into another extremely busy week/weekend so I may not be "here" as much as I'd like 'til after my craft show on the 13th but I'd love your prayers over that as well. That I would have ease and joy in baking and crafting for that and prosperous sales.
thank you all-

Blessings, staci FG# 973

It has always seemed to me that Martha is like my head and knows that He is lord and all will be well on the other side. Mary on the other hand represents my heart which throws itself at His feet and weeps longing to be closer to him.

Both to Staci and Cherime...I wrote you both in other places...it is often so hard to let go and lose control of the reins. Really, we have never had them in the first place. Same with Mary & Martha. In the scripture we were to read about M, M & Lazarus, Martha says that she knows that her brother will rise from the dead....later...if He had been there...Lazarus wouldn't have died. Mary said the same thing. Things looked bad. Our situations look bad...ours and both yours Staci & Cherime. Neither sister, for the moment could believe that Jesus was "in" the situation with them, and that He had a purpose. May we pray to see, that God knows all, is with us in all, & allows all for His purposes...our good & His glory.

Staci - praying that your Martha side can help your hubby with the everyday details as you face your current challenge and that your Mary side can be of support to him and be at his feet making him feel worthy. I will pray that he finds another job soon and that all will be well.

Humankind is always trying to stay in control. I always try to keep the thought that when we are weak he is strong uppermost in my mind and heart. Claudia you are correct that it is hard to let go but let go and let Him we must if we are to see His goodness and the marvelous wonders that only He can perform.

Staci, you will be in my prayers.
I think that as I'm just starting to find my grounding in the world, I will need to keep my Martha and Mary side in check. I think though, that I've always been taught to keep them in balance. My fifth grade teacher always said that faith without action is not faith, but that just action is not faith. I think know that she was trying to tell us to keep our Mary and Martha sides in balance!

I have been out of the loop for quite awhile. Want to read all I missed! May I jump back in? Claudia, I loved what you shared and feel a lot the same way! I think, so often it is hard to strike a balance between the two? We need to take the time, first and most important, to reflect and have our quiet, learning time with God! Yet, things in the practical have to get done. Being there for family and friends is important too! Perhaps a lot of the Lord's chastising is their 'heart' attitudes, which of course He sees in all of us. I think most of us, if we are honest with ourselves, often try to do the busy stuff in life, as perfect as we can, to make ourselves proud and to look good? Rather than trying to do each task as pleasing unto Him alone? I know this is something I have thought about a lot lately. Who are we really trying to please and why?
