Hello, Everyone-

I just joined after I discovered Maryjane's magazine and website through the list of references in the back of Made From Scratch. I'm really enjoying learning all about homesteading and self-sufficiency these days, because even though I live in an apartment in a small city, my recent financial difficulties have really started to teach me the value of simplicity, making do, and providing for yourself as well as the courage and optimism it takes to face want and struggle.

I've always valued these ideas in a more abstract sort of way, but they are starting to really come home for me now, and I am learning how to trust myself and find my inner courage and the ability to be joyful and light in the face of adversity. I think that this forum and the Farmgirl Connection really do honor those things.

I'm looking forward to learning from all of you, and hopefully to being an official member of the Sisterhood when I can afford to do so.

Thanks,
Sara

Hi Sara,
Welcome from NC. I've only been on the forum a short time and I love it. I'm sure you will too. The people are awesome. You sound like you have a great attitude and haven't let stuff get you down. That can be tuff these days. Appreciating the simple things and learning whats really important seems to mean more than ever now days.

Welcome Sara! You'll feel right at home here, official member or not. It took me a few months to be able to save up for my membership too, but I was always treated just as if I already was a Sister :) Good to have ya!

I went to UGA for my Master's Degree, which I finished about a year ago! I'm waiting now to get into an internship so I can get on with my capital-C Career plan, but my friends and I still get together from time to time to watch a game!

I have a Master's of Music Education with a specialty in Music Therapy, which is what I plan to do in the future. Right now I am waiting to hear back from an internship I applied to, and after that I can sit for certification. What did you get your Master's in?

I am a pediatric Occupational Therapist. I actually work with a music therapist who is currently getting a degree in OT. Its a great field, and so much fun! Do you plan on working with children?

Yes, actually! My training has focused primarily on working with children who have special needs and disorders on the Autism spectrum, and those are the populations I want to continue working with in the future.

I think it's so interesting to see how treatment teams of different types of therapists can offer holistic care that can be so flexible and well suited to each individual child.

Thank you! I'm already loving it, and I think that I'm going to get so much out of this, and I'm hoping that I'll also discover that I have a lot to offer to others as well, maybe even things I don't realize I have to give.
