I am really new to gardening. I received a eggplant start last week and was so happy I went out and bought cilantro. The day after I planted the cilantro I found snails - tiny and big! So I did some research and tried some coffee grounds...I thought that would help and I would have cilantro for our tofu tacos this weekend...Nope. I woke up this morning and the whole plant was gone covered in snail slime. Big fail and I am bummed.

My boyfriend's solution is: spray! I want to keep my lil garden organic. What are some things to try. I uprooted and tossed the cilantro and want to try again after I get some tips.

My eggplant seemed to have attracted a few pests but that stopped. Could I use a mild dish soap/water mix on the young leaves to help keep them away?

Thanks!

Kendy, use some pie tins with beer in them, snails and slugs love to drink it, but it kills them, you can place them all over your gardens and no poisen!

If you're looking for a cheap alternative (unless you have old beer hangning around)you canbuy cheap salt at the store (ya know, the kind that's like 65cents for a container) and make a large ring aroung your cilantro plant. Trust me, the bugs won't cross it- well, unless they WANT to die.
