Finally found a wonderful site that seems to fit with my life, just need more time. Living on a farm in Ohio raising 5 boys. Cody is 18 and graduated today! He's heading to Knoxville Tenn to youth ministry and I'm completely heartbroken he's leaving. How does a mom deal with children leaving? My other boys are twins, Clint and Clay, they're 14 and my smallest twins are 6, Cutter Ethan and Colt. Would love some other farm moms that seem to "do it all" to gets tips from. Love to find new farm mom friends from near and far. God Bless Laura

When we sent our first one off to college, I bawled like a baby, though I had 10 other ones at home still, the oldest and the youngest being 14 years apart. Each one leaving the nest got easier. I'm not saying I liked it. I liked having my children at home with me. I came to understand that this was a new phase in my life, and finally after the 5th one leaving I realized that I either had to accept it or keep on crying. I accepted it with open arms...eventually...
It's hard, I know first hand how hard it is. Now we are down to our last one who is 16 and will start her Senior year of High School this fall. I keep accepting the new phases that come into my life, hard as they are sometimes.
I'm not sure I have any advice for you other than letting you know you are not alone.

Welcome Laura - I will be dealing with the same thing next year and I'm already having separation anxiety. If nothing else there is a wonderful support group here!!

| (((HUGS))) We have 7 children, and the 4th one to leave the nest is going off to college this fall. I had a real hard time when each one left. I found that really focusing on the younger ones really helped, and realizing that I should spend what precious time with them I had left instead of crying about the ones already gone. No matter what you do to help you cope, it still hurts, even though them becoming independant adults was the goal all along.... |

Just hearing other women say good things makes me smile. It's just something I didnt expect to be so dang hard! Anyone wanna road trip with me??!! My pickups got 200,000 on it but I'm sure it'll make it to Tennessee...lol. When the eldest started school I was a "young mom".....went to my littlest ones art show the other day and a now "young mom" says "omg like I'll like be like 38 when Christine Emily Anne Marie Brittany..(lol yes true) graduates. Heres me the mom in the all denium outfit saying "crap, I'll be 56". Humor gets me through life but occasionally I have a pitty party for myself like this deal and I sure am happy to sit here with my coffee and know there are GOOD women in this world! You've made me feel Blessed on this Memorial Day and I thank you for the pick words, they've worked. Now, I need to get my wallet out and get joined up to be a MaryJanes Farmgirl......I just want the cute necklace...lol. (and good advise too!) MY BEST TO Y~ALL

I will be dealing with this in 3-4 years depending on how hard my oldest works. She's homeschooled. I will be a young mom at the college thing as I was a teeneage mom, but with my youngest I will be an old mom for sure, 50. It doesn't seem right that I'll be 35ish with my first and 50ish with my last. At least I won't be as bad as my brother in law, he'll be 64 before his youngest is college bound! And realisticly there could be more to come along yet if he or his wife don't do something to prevent it.

welcome laura i haven't had any leave the nest yet but the 15 year old was talking about it the other day-made me really sad just thinking about it. but i always said i was trying to raise them to go out into the world one day to be worthwhile adults,guess i am doing my job!!

Hi Laura. Welcome! I live about 150 miles from Knoxville. Not too far. And I just have to tell you, they do come back home at one time or another. Believe me, mine did several times til I said NO MORE! So don't worry too much about having an emty nest for too long.

Laura, sending you a warm Missouri welcome, I have no kids left at home and my son was the first to leave, he enlisted in the Army and I was to busy being proud to understand missing him, so when the girls started to leave I was "proud" of each one for different reason so my "empty" nest didnt seem empty. Now we have a (well at least) once a month family day so we can build more memories. By the way my oldest daugthers name is Shayne Joan Catherine Elizabeth, so many fights on who she should be named after (expect Shayne that was my choice!) the poor little thing got stuck with the all!! Again welcome.

Awwwww Margaret, that is so wonderful! While the other boys are still in school until this Friday, I keep doing little things with the eldest... we go to lunch or fishing etc... I think he's now using me because today he wants to trek to Walmart for "leaving items" and I soooo dont like Walmart...lol. My boys are all named with "C" names and there are times when I yell for them, or AT them and get all confused, thats when they ALL come running. Cody, Clint, Clay, Cutter and Colt! Since I wont be having more children I'm already working on naming the grandchildren...lol! There best be some more twins in the family because I have TONS of girly names. Anyways, I best get to the barn as our heifer is finally having her calf, she had to wait until this storm came in to do it so I'm sure to be soaking wet. Thank you kindly for your wonderful words, even though I do not know you, I do know that you took your time to make my days ahead much better. :)
