Hi all you beautiful farmgirls! I am brand spanking new at this but I am so excited to find your forum. For the past few years I have had these ridiculous yearnings to be a farmgirl. Ridiculous! Or so I thought. Then I found my very first MaryJanes Farm magazine last month and flipped! There are other suburbanite professional women like me out there who are true farmgirls at heart! Well, now, I am a REAL true farmgirl. Last week, I was presented with this beautiful opportunity to join this tiny little dairy goat co-op at a small community farm just a few miles from home and work. I am trading two acupuncture sessions (which is what I do for a living) for my very own, five month old, sweet little Nigerian Dwarf goat. I named her Motholeli after the little girl in the Alexander McCall Smith books, Number One Ladies Detective novels set in Botswana, which is not so very far from Nigeria. She is black and white with gorgeous blue eyes, and in only one week, I imagine that she has learned to recognize me! So much to learn about goats in general, and reading lots about the eventual kidding and milking, etc. In a world of too much virtual this and automatic that, I sit in the shade watching these lovely creatures, and it brings me back to my real, true self.

Deborah - welcome, so glad to have you here!! I just finished the No. 1 Ladies series (aside from the very brand new one) and just loved it. I hope you enjoy the forum.

A big hello from another Colorado farmgirl. Your new baby sounds like a treasure. I love the name you chose. I am a big fan of Alexander McCall Smith. Do you read his Scottish or English series as well? His books are pure escape. I happen to really love Scotland and his books kind of take you there. Do you know any farmgirls who would like to live on a farm near Burlington, CO?

Hi and thanks for such a warm welcome! Everybody here is so friendly, I feel like I want to be a better, happier, friendlier person than I think I am already! Ilene, I have not read those other series from McCall Smith, but I have defintely put them on my reading list. Thanks for the recommendation!

It has been raining here for days and days, and if you know anything about Colorado, you know how unusual it is to go very long without seeing the sunshine. But I have my very own sunshine from all of you here on the "chat-porch". Who can be down in the dumps when their farmgirl friends are around? Have a wonderful Monday, everybody!

I thought I sent you a welcome last week but I don't see it so...
Welcome! I live about an hour south of you in Littleton. It's not actually Littleton but the Ken Caryl area if you're familiar with this side of town.
And yea, this rain is crazy! I remember this happening last year too because my tomato plants got fungus gnats from all of the moisture. This year I moved the pots under the porch overhang to try and keep them dry.

We had a whole bunch of rain the last few weeks, but now it's sunny! Think our Oregon rains went east your way. Your garden will love all the rain & rest assured, sun's coming your way soon :-)

Hi girls, I have missed you! Judy, We say Lewis-ville here too! The little goats are getting bigger and are no longer suspicious of eveything we offer them. They were raised on cheetos and cherios before they came to live with us! But now they devour whatever "health food" we offer. Right now I am giving them lots of grape vines I have trimmed from the lawn,.. and the fence... and the trees... and the clothesline! They love them! Time just slows way down when I am hanging with Motholeli and her goat friends.
