Hello farmgirl-friends! Thought I'd introduce myself since I've been wandering around reading the wealth of info around here! I'm Dionne, currently living in Duluth, GA. I'm a mobile farmgirl (aka container gardening) because my husband is in the military and we average a move about every 3 years, so I need to be able to pack my garden up and take it with me. I have a lovely daughter who is going into her senior year and a wonderful son who will be starting kindergarten in the fall. While hubby is away in Afghanistan for the year and when I'm not out in my garden I love to quilt, sew, make jam and do all sorts of arts and crafts.
***Edit to add*** How could I forget to mention my absolute favorite past time is throwing tea parties for my friends and family? I'll be opening my business as a professional tea party hostess this fall, where I take all the fixing for an English style tea to my customers homes!***

This year in my boxes I'm growing collards, brocolli, cauliflower, tomatoes, egg plant, spearmint, chocolate mint, lemon balm and cukes for pickling. In a few weeks I'll be putting in brussels sprouts, lima beans, more collards and hot peppers for pickling...yep all in containers! I love living in this part of GA because you can grown things for nearly 10 months out of the year, it's just city enough to have lots of things to do and see while still being just country enough to enjoy a slower pace. Thanks for reading and for sharing your experiences here!

A great big, warm welcome from Long Island!
Chocolate mint?? I have never heard of it other than a cookie flavor! I will have to remember that for my garden next year!
Good luck with your tea business!

Hi Dionne, from another Georgia farmgirl! It's so good to see you here. Sounds like you are a real gardener. And your tea party business sounds so very interesting and fun too. I am going to a tea next Monday. I can't wait. I am bringing some lemon thyme shortbread cookies.

Welcome! Kris

So many warm welcomes! Thank you! It does sound like us GA girls need to get together!
Amy~I'm originally from Texas...good old San Antonio! How's the heat treating you there?
Teresa~I had never heard of it either until a couple of years ago when my local nursery got in 10 different mint varieties (pineapple, orange, apple, chocolate, geranium, peppermint, spearmint, bergamont, morrocan, and curly) and I bought one of each. Unfortunately I planted them all in one huge box thinking to control them and they ended up loosing their distinctive flavors and tasted like a generic 'mint' flavor. Then the huge snow storm we had wipe everybody out except the spearmint.

Hi and welcome,
I enjoyed reading about your container gardens and tea parties, 2 of my favorite pastimes as well. I had to plant alot of my plants in containers to move and now I'm enjoying arranging them here and there. Getting ready to setup my tea cup and tea set collection in my antique china cabinet, miss seeing all my favorites there. Take care, hope to hear from you soon. hugs, v

Dana, Getting us Georgia Farmgirls together would be wonderful. I live in Blue Ridge, almost to the Tennessee line. Our town has a wonderful pavalion on the Toccoa River with restroom facilities. They rent it for $20. I have one reserved for the 4th of July for 5 hours. It is a beautiful setting. The park is called Ron Henry's Horseshoe Bend Park. Actually it is in McCaysville, GA.
Not sure where all the girls are, we might want to see if we could get a more central location. I know Gwinnett Co has some great parks also.
Hugs, Ruth
ps: I LOVE the handwarmers you made for yourself - they are so pretty and practical too! Do you sell them????

Ruth, I know the park you are talking about. The beautiful thing about going to North Georgia this time of year is that it is somewhat cooler! And thanks for the shout out on the handwarmers. I LOVE to knit!

Dionne, we have not met up in person as of yet. But we hope to!
We need a child friendly spot since a couple of our gals have small kiddos.

Oh, I want to come too!! I just saw this. Someone had mentioned a Ga. get together. I live right next to Chattanooga. Lots of fun things to do here. But I agree, we need a more central location to meet that would be close for everyone. I am up for anything as long as I can get back home in a few hours. I also have to milk goats. I can miss one evening milking but not the morning. This sounds like so much fun to get to meet all you farmgirl sisters soon! I can't wait. If there is anything I could do to get things going let me know. I am really not an organizer but a great helper.
