Hello all you vegetable and flower lovers! I have just finished writing a blurb in my book that I'm creating for my granddaughter (Maria Elaine) Mae. It's all about gardening on our 2.5 acres in rural Nampa, ID. The topics in the book so far are, Organic Gardening, Crop Rotation, Composting, Earthworms, Drip irrigation and Water Conservation, and now Heirloom Seeds. It's knowledge I've learned about gardening that I want to condense for her when she's ready to garden (she's only 16 months old, but you can't start too soon.
I am passionate about Heirloom Seeds. I started with Heirloom Seeds from two sources and learned how to save the seeds from year-to-year. My blurb is all about the need to plant and grow Heirloom Seeds in EVERY vegetable garden., the reasons why Hybrid Seeds were manufactured (mass production, monopoly, transporting from one geographical area in the country to another etc. etc.). If you'd like a copy I'll gladly email it to you! Spread the word!

I have done exclusively heirlooms last year and this year. I am saving my own seed also-the full circle. Your Granddaughter is so lucky to have you do this for her.

Yes! I have been reading "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle" and it is reminding me of the value of preserving our seed heritage. I'll get my e-mail to you today. We have been gardening for a lot of years but are taking it a lot more seriously now. Susan

I have begun to grow some heirlooms this year and am going to go all heirloom next year. You have any suggestions for books on saving seed? I really want to learn.

Lisa at Amishland Heirloom Seeds has a lot of great free information on saving Heirloom Seeds. Her website is www.amishlandseeds.com Her single woman company and endeavor is awesome. I've ordered seeds from her. I love her detailed information on how to save specific seeds of various vegetables. I've used her method for two years and it works great!
Books would be Heirloom Gardening & Seed to Seed
Good luck,
Marlies
