We took Mazie the heifer about a mile up the road last month to be bred to a Black Angus bull. I miss her. Roxie misses her too. Goats just are not the same as a big red cow. I have seen her a few times since. But she's just a part of a herd of cows now.

Until I drive up. I can hardly tell which one she is til she sees me. Then I'll call her name and she comes running to the fence like a big ole red puppy dog with it's tail wagging. Happy to see me too. It's so cute. All the other cows just look at me and walk away. Or run. They are not people cows like Mazie is. She's my cow. I love her. I want her back home. I need a trailor. I can borrow my friend's trailor Friday. Then she is coming back home.

And hopefully next March or April we will have a cute little calf again at Outback Farm!

Thanks ya'll. She is a sweetie. I have had her since she was just a few hours old. So she's just a big ole baby. Probably weighs at least 900 pounds. She was getting a little obnoctious (?)lately and I could not go out in the pasture with her when she was in heat. I was jsut a little bit afraid she might do some harm to me and I don't like getting hurt anymore. So I hope this will settle the big girl down alot now. And I am hoping to try and milk her. If I can ever learn to post pictures I will. She is so pretty.

Everyone should have a cow. They are so neat to have around. And mine are just grass fed so no money to spend on them right now. Very easy keepers. I just love cows too.

Kris, your story reminded me of a sweet cow that I used to visit up the road from my grandparents'. I was about 10 or so.. I would walk by this cow farm on my way to my friends or cousins. I would linger on the fence and watch them cows. One wandered over to me and moo'd at me and I would talk to her. This went on for long time and I met the farmer one day and we shared stories about his cows... I pointed to the one that would visit me. He said her name was Lulu. I called herr Lulu. She came right up to me, nearly knocked me off the fence when she nudged her nose at me hard. I laughed. She and I would nudge each other over the years. I had moved away and it was a few years that I had seen her. When I came back to visit my grandparents.. I went up to that farm and said Lulu... Lulu.. I couldn't see her amongst the whole herd of cows. One cow perked her head up high, trying to see who was calling her over her the backs of her farm mates. I said Lulu once more... she pushed her way through the herd.. it was evening feeding time and she nudged me when she got to me!. LOL!

:o)

Aw, how neat, Kerrieann. Aren't they sweet? And so friendly too. Waht a nice memory. I hope Mazie is around a long time.

Sherry, ya just never know about those silly goats. I hope it all works out for you. Across the road they have an arena and they have people come bring their horses. They practice roping and rodeo stuff. I have thought about seeing if they might want to herd Mazie home! Or I could just have a bucket of apples and she'd follow me anywhere.

We got our "baby" 13 years ago when she was about 2 hours old. Now she is pregnant with what will probably be her last calf. Bailey runs to the fence when she sees us and will follow us when we're out in the field. She has huge horns, but is so gentle with them. We're hoping for a heifer calf this time to keep her beautiful bloodline going.

Kris...I get it. I love my cows too!

I don't know if anyone remembers the story of the fence in the pasture that belongs to my neighbor who lets me use it for the cows. Mazie climbed over the old honeysuckle lined fence and messed it up. SO I went ahead and had a friend put up a whole new barbed wire fence that cost me over $600. Well, back when the guy said I could use the pasture, he said I could use it til he ever decided to get cows. He never has yet. But I haven't been using the pasture this past month since Mazie's been gone. I put Roxie out back with the goats then moved her up front. Trying to let the pasture rest awhile. Anyway, I can never catch these people at home so I wrote a note asking if it was still ok to use it. That was 2 days ago and I have not heard back from them. They are wierd people.

SO do ya'll think it would be ok to just go ahead and bring Mazie back and put her and Roxie over there anyway? I was just trying to make sure it's ok. But he did say I could always use it. I keep it cleaned up. Anyway, was just wondering the proper way to do this.

Jenny, Mona is so sweet. I know she is special. And Kimberly, that is so neat to have a cow that long. I'll probably always have my 2 girls. And luckily they were both naturally polled. Roxie is half Jersey and half black angus. And the bull Mazie's with is polled also. It doesn't really matter about the calf though, if ya know what I mean.

oh girls my friend lisa is my and papas hero for sure. she tricked those babies and the two wild moms into the horse trailer by her self. wow. so i have 2 baby bucks in one stall and the little doe baby in the other. we put the moms down in a lower corral. very little crying going on. oh but they are a wild 3 babies. they are almost 5 months. do you girls think i could tame down the doe? you go near her and she will climb the wall to get away. i have been working in the cow barn around them today and just sat in the stall all quiet. teresa had suggested it when we brought the other wild ones we rescued in. it worked for them but they had been handled by folks before. she is new to people and sooo scared. what do you think? happy days sherrye

Sheery, that sounds good what Teresa said. She got those wild donkeys tamed that way. Eventually they will calm down the more they see you and hear your voice. And the more treats you give won't hurt either! The more they are around you the friendlier they will become. Have fun with them. What kind are they?

hi there, they are alpine boar cross. the moms are thinner not like a typical meat goat. the one has a nice bag and nursed 2 babies. they are so wild. any suggestions on treats goats will love. my ginger only likes corn cobs and lettuce. i must be offering the wrong stuff for treats. they do not get grain so not sure? did you move your cows down to the neighbors? i think you should go for it. i would. they said you could. if they changed their minds i would think they would have responded by now. we just got the ok from a neighbor across our road. we will take isabel over there and back for milking. hope she cooperates. we shall see. we are going to take dinner back to pasture too. he is always going to have a crooked neck i think. he is well enough to go out again. we will butcher him this fall. hope all you farm girls are staying cool. so hot here. wow supposed to cool this next week a little. glad you have a friend for mona jenny. i think she is a very pretty cow. kimberley thats a long time to have a cow. she sounds wonderful. i sure hope you get a heifer this time. happy days sherrye

Sherry, my goats love apples cut up and kale and just about anything I've given them. Oh, they really love bread. Just try a little at a time and see what they like.
