Well I have lost everyone of my squash plants trying to cut the worms out. Today is the third set of new plants. Does anyone have an idea. The plants were in my raised beds in the front and back yards. Ugh. I love squash and wanted some home grown free from my garden.
Hi Suzie, I don't have an answer for you, just a sympathetic shoulder! Cut worms destroyed my squash plants 3 years in a row. I tried planting them in different spots each year, but the back yard space is so small it didn't make a difference. I tried something organic (don't remember what) and it didn't help. I tried to hand remove the worms and the plants died faster. I don't want to use pesticides in the garden, so I stopped planting them.
This year I planted my squashes in a garden 180 miles away at my mother's house. I am hoping that different soil and conditions will make a difference. I will be tending that garden this weekend and I am hopng the squashes are healthy.
Lida thanks for the shoulder. Hope your new spot works. My sisters in south Tx is doing great. I guess I will try again next year. I like you do not want pesticides either.
Suzie, After the same thing happend to my squash plants this yr I started reading about companion planting. Well I have found that if you plant radishes next to the squash it deters the squash bugs. I plan on trying this next yr. And I do like radishes. Deborah
