Is there a natural remedy for ants?? I am over come with them. We barely were able to have a picnic in our backyard last weekend for being eaten alive.

I highly recommend Diatomaceous Earth (DE). It's organic & safe to use *around* children & pets (we get the "food safe" quality, but obviously *not* to ingest, it's just so that it's okay for backyard/garden use) from our local Farm & Garden supply. It's most effective if you sprinkle it (it's a white powder) around the ants nesting area so you get more at the source. DE is made from fossils, so it's "shard-like" to the pests like slugs, ants, earwigs. Hope that helps.

I have used cornmeal for many years, the ants bring it back to their nests, and injest it, but, can't digest it and die.Just sprinkle along their trails, around their nests, or put in jar lids where you see them.

When I use the cornmeal, usually in a few days that nest is history, then i go to the next nest, or use it along their highways, and againwithin a few days they are gone too.

I sprinkled some of this around the front porch, and they all disappeared!

You get diatomaceous earth (DE) from Farm & Garden supply places as well as garden centers.

I hate those ants. If anyone is going to get bit it'll be me. When I do yard work I wear my boots. And their ant piles spread all over the place. When it rains the ants come into the carport area. For a while I would mix Dawn detergent with water and pour that over the ant mounds. It worked for a while, then I think the ants got used to it. LOL

I have a lot of ants this year too, in the house! Can't find the nests. I have used Ant Be-gone. They bring it to the nest and it kills the ants in the nest. However it takes about a week to work!

I got bitten this morning. I'm like you Marly -- they find me and bite me. The ants are trying to take over the herb garden. I immediately went inside and got cormeal. They were on it the second I spread it on the ground. I am hoping they go away for good. Late today, there were not as many ants as earlier. Suzanne

well I still have not done anything about those darn ants. Been too busy but when I took the garbage out I found 3 new mounds. I need a reminder to get out the corn meal.

Corn meal seems to have reducted my ant population. They need another dose though. Suzanne

I started using cornmeal this year for the first time. It has reduced the amount of ants, after each time I sprinkle it.

I will continue to feed the glutinous little ants. I don't like them. I keep hoping the birds will do them in -- but so far they prefer the worms. Suzanne

Will the cornmeal or diatomaceous earth work on fire ants (the huge red ones that really bite)? I had seen a few in the yard but this afternoon when I went to check my hens the red ants were all over their enclosure. All over their food bowl and water crocks. My poor ladies were backed into a corner screaming. I wonder if they got bit? Well they will eat anything that moves so fire ants must not taste good. I let them out into the bigger back yard until I can get a handle on this. Hubby will want to spray but I feed my ladies organic food and spray just will not do! Any advice is greatly welcomed.

Every Day is a gift from God, Rejoice and be glad in it.

The cornmeal continues to work. The ants aren't gone entirely, but their numbers are cut considerably. suzanne
