Sharon,
Thanks for your comments. I feel blessed to have been able to have sucha variety of experiences. Our monkey, Buddy, was very sweet...nasty, but sweet! He was only about 5 or six inches tall when we first got him!
I also like the variety of colors of the Icelandics. I have a beautiful black ram. Three of my ewes are simialrly colored...that brown wheaty color variation. I don't quite have the names of the colors figured out. Moorit is brown, I believe, and am still figuring out just what mouflan is! My other ewe is white with a big black spot (almost like a saddle). She has some leader in her and her conformation and wool are a bit different than the others. One of the brown ones and the black and white are badger-faced. I like them all and can't wait to see how their lambs come out. I'm hoping for some black ones.
I am looking forward to working with their wool. What do you do with yours?

Happy Farming!

Hi Brenda. I'm frustrating myself trying to learn how to spin it. I've cleaned and carded some, but finding the time to sit down in front of that wheel and spin it has been a challenge. I finally kind of sort of got the hang of it using a different type of wool and now am giving the Icelandic wool a go. I think I'd be further along if I had more time to devote to it but as of right now the time isn't available as I'd like. I figure if I can get it all cleaned then when it gets cold again I'll be inside more. What I'd like to find are a pair of combs to help take some of the slubs out of what my beginning carding capabilities have done. I know I'll get it eventually.

I was out with the woolies this morning and one of the lambs, Dahlia, is such a sweetie. She's like her dad, Brown Baby. She'll come up for a scratch and enjoy standing there getting the attention. I really need to get myself one of those things to tattoo their ears so I can advertise the rams for sale. I'm putting it off because I hate to eventually see them go, but eventually it will happen.

Smiling & Waving,
Sharon

Sharon,
I can only imagine how difficult it is going to be when the time comes to sell my little lambs! I really hope the lambs will be a bit more friendly to us than the 5 grown ones are. Although, I must say, they have become much more friendly of late. I guess they are starting to warm up to us. Especially the two yearlings. They will let us give them a scratch and a pat most of the time.
I have "met" a lady who raises only polled Icelandics. She says she prefers them, but I don't know how I'd work mine without the horns to hold on to. Besides, I think their horns make them look very distinctive!
I say "met" because it is just via email so-far. She doesn't live too far from us and I would like to go and visit her farm.
Will you be going to the Michigan Fiber Festival next year? I really would like to go. Maybe we could meet there.
There is a World Fiber Festival somewhere in Missouri over Labor Day weekend that I have just learned about. If possible, I would like to go to that one as well.
Well, I wish you well with the spinning. I am really anxious to get started learning.

Happy Farming!

I've not been to the MI Fiber Fest before, but would love to go. I know a place in our area that processes wool goes there for it. I'll have to see when it is and talk to hubby about it. I'd love to plan a trip there.
