"Webble", on the thread by Lisatwo, titled "What would you do"? My D-in-Law called me today, crying her heart out. She was walking with her son Roger, my G/son, and where ever Roger goes, so does Webble, the little dog who adopted my G/son last year, and has been a God send to him (he is autistic & blind). A large dog came running out of a yard at them, growling and barking. My D-in_law was doing what any mother would do , putting herself between the dog and her child, getting bit several times in the process. And while this was going on, Webble had attached herself to to rear leg of this dog, trying with all her 5 lb might to protect her child and his Mama. She died a hero, and a stranger came out of no where and took a baseball bat to the killer dog, and rushed my D-in-Law & G/son to the hospital. Another stranger took Webbles body and put her in a box, til my D-in-law could come back for her, to bury her. Please keep my G/son in your prayers, as well as my D-in-Law, this is going to be tuff on them.

Teresa, I remember you telling us about Webble (because my son, too, has SN & very attached to our dog). I am heartbroken and tearful hearing this. I am so very, very sorry for all 3 of them. I will definitely keep them in my prayers. Tearfully and solemnly, so sorry.

Teresa, that is the saddest thing I have heard. I am so sorry. What is wrong with these dogs? And poor little Webble such a sweet hero. I just hope your DIL is ok. And Roger.

Oh Teresa I am so sorry. :( Poor Webble and your daughter in law and grandson. I know how they feel and the horror your dil must have felt at the time. I hope they find the dog and immediately have it destroyed.
My heart goes out to all of you.

Prayers and Hugs being sent out. I just don't understand why some pet owners are so irresponsible! I had a German Shepard in my yard the other day growling at me, thank goodness something spooked him and he took off.

Teresa, I am wiping back my tears for poor little Webble. What a heroic little dog. I hope your DIL and grandson are OK physically, this will be a hard thing to get over emotionally though. I say it again, there are no bad dogs, just bad owners. That dog will have to be euthanized because of the lack of care by the owner. Webble will never be able to be replaced, but I hope you can find a little dog for your grandson to help him with his loss. Prayers out to you and yours.

thank you all so very much, I am having a real hard time trying to stop crying, They don't live close to me, they are up in Oregan. The man with the bat, killed the attacking dog, and when animal control got there, that dog was chipped, so I hope they find the owner, cause no one reconized the dog in the neighborhood, which is small and close nit. My D-in-Law will be fine after healing from the dog bits, she has about 30 stitches all together from 5 differant bite wounds, because of tearing. Roger was not hurt, and does not understand what happened, but he keeps calling his Webbles, this will be a huge setback for him. I am so very angry right now, it is a good thing I am not there, cause I think I would do great bodily harm to the owner of that dog. The man who came to their aid, was an off duty EMT, and a huge hero in my eyes. The other man that took Webbles body is also a good person, cause not being able to bury her, would make it so much harder on them.

Teresa- I am so glad that your daughter in law is going to be okay. Make sure she really watches those wounds! As I am sure you know- Dog bites can go septic very fast!

My D-in-law is a "CNA", (certifed nursing assistant) who is going back to school, she wants to be a RN, so yes she knows what to watch for, but I will remind her, cause right now all she is thinking about is her son, and the extreme loss he is experiencing, which is a big back slide to anyone with his disabilites.

Teresa, what a horrible thing to happen to your DIL and your grandson. Poor little Webble, what a brave courageous little dog he was. He gave his life to try and protect his loved ones. Love doesn't go any deeper than that. I just can't help but thinking how scared and confused your grandson must of been while this was going on.It must of been so frightening for him. 30 stitiches is a lot that dog must of been totally vicious. I pray that your DIL heals quickly and that your grandson will be able to adjust to his loss of his best buddy. I get so sick of other peoples carelessness and lack of responsibility causing so much pain and anguish to innocent victims. That dog should never been running loose. It must be hard on you not being able to be there and comfort them.

Hugs and prayers,
MJ

I had to leave the computer after reading this to clear away the tears.

Webble was a true friend, an angel with hair rather than wings. Her love for Roger was a great gift. Her attempt at protection may have actually distracted the "demon dog" and helped slow down the attack until help arrived.

I'm so thankful someone came to your daughter's and her son's aid, if he hadn't it could have been much more tragic! It is so hard for anyone to understand why such a thing happened and especially for a child with autism for whom normal everyday things can be a mystery. I'm sure he is dealing with the fear and truama of the attack as well as the loss of his dear companion. I'm sure your daughter is feeling more pain for the loss than from the bites.

I am praying for your daughter and her son and that they can deal with the double tradgedy of the attack and loss of Webble.

Was the attack reported to the police so they can deal with the dog?

Susan, yes it was reported to animal reg, who in turn reported it to the local police dept, they are looking for the owner (the dog was chipped), I so hope they find the owner, cause their neglect, caused a real tragedy for a child that will never understand, and they need to pay in some way for that.

The police dept just stopped by my D-in-laws, and told her that the address that is registered to the dogs chip, is a house that was abandoned and in forclousure in the next town. There is no forwarding address from the reg dog owner, and another witness to what happened to my D-in-law, G/son and Webbles, said that dog has been wandering in the neighborhood for several days, so he was probally dumped. They will file with the DA's office, and a warrent will be issued for the owner of the dog, but unless that person gets a traffic ticket or some other kind of trouble that involves the police, he/she will probally never get caught.

Look at all the heartache and trauma caused by the irresponsible dog owner!! The dog was confused, hungry and scared at the hands of irresponsible human beings and then he caused horror for a precious little boy, a loving mother and loyal dog........I'm just beside myself at the stupidity and recklessness of some people. I am again so very, very sorry Teresa and hope that your family will be able to heal from all of this. Thoughts and prayers! Lin

I am so sorry Teresa. Last year my 10 yo granddaughter took her small dog out to go to potty in their backyard and a big dog came into their yard and her little dog barked at it and the big dog grapped her and shook her to death right in front of Lexi. Lexi still has a fear of animals after this. It was a very difficult. I will pray for your family. Bless the people that helped. I know you are hurting for your loved ones too.

Sherry, thank you for your offer, but we would have to decline, (money is not the problem), you see, Webble adopted my G/son a year ago, I truely think she was a furry little angel sent by God. No one, and nothing before her was ever able to have the calming effect on Roger that she had, not even his Mama and Daddy, who love him with their whole hearts and souls. She was his salvation, and attached to his soul. She knew when it was going to be a bad day before anyone else, and she would work her magic, and the day would go so much smoother for Roger. I don't think there is another dog on this planet that could come close to taking over for Webble, and unless God deceides to send another angel, there never will be.

Teresa, here's a link that might be a consideration for your grandson: http://autismservicedogsofamerica.com/ These dogs work with kids with autism. I'll also call our Humane Society & see if they can give me a name of a local group in Oregon since your grandson lives in my same state & I'll post what I can find out.

Okay, this is what I found out (so excited because there are *two* autism-specific agencies in Oregon!! The link that I gave you above is to an agency located in Lake Oswego (near Portland), OR (at 4248 Galewood St, Lake Oswego... I couldn't find a phone #, though). The second agency is called: Joys of Living http://www.joydogs.org & they're located in Keizer, OR (near Salem). Their phone number is: (503) 551-4572 I hope they'll be able to grieve the loss of their dear, sweet Webbles and be able to find another forever buddy help dog. xoxo

Jewel, I will forward the info to my D-in-law, thank you for taking the time to find it.
Webbles adopted my G/son at a park one day last year when he was having a tuff time, loud noises, and strange loud voices cause him to panic, he will scream no no no, while covering his ears, as he did that day, thenks to some nasty and cruel teen boys, This pup walked up to him and howled her heart out, and when she did, Roger stopped screaming and that pup crawled into his lap and went to sleep. That was the beginning of a perfect friendship, and was ended a few days ago...She had "no" formal training, and since she only weighed about 5 lb's, she took no space, and went eveywhere with him. I will hope and pray that another miracle dog comes along...
