Is there anything I can do about it? I keep it picked up but there is still an overwhelming stench coming from the dog's area.

My picnic table isn't very far from it and I can hardly stand to be out there.

I would spread lime over the ground and maybe put down pine (not cedar) shavings to help absorb some of the ammonia and keep the feces from combining with the soil.

Is the run just dirt, and if it is has it been packed down so its no longer absorbing? Or even if you have gravel over dirt, it will still pack down. Dig down the dirt at least 2 feet, add a 6-8 in layer of 3/4 rock and brek up fill dirt and put over rock, leaving a 4-6 in space and fill that in with pea gravel. This will help keep the dirt from re-packing down, and keep good drainage. Wash down the run with a mild soapy water solution at least once a week in the warm months and maybe once a month in the cold and/or wet months, but poop must be picked up at least once a day all year long...

i would also add DE to the soil. it will kill parasite eggs etc naturally. work it in when you are done digging and cleaning. i love the stuff.there are enzymes for dog feces and urine. i have a dry one that is enzymes. you dig a hole the size of a 5 gallon bucket. take the bottom out of the bucket. it fits in hole like a pipe sleeve. i put the enzymes in bottom. you put dog feces in and the enzymes degrade it to dirt. natural way to get rid of dog poo.doesnt help the run but thought this was a good way to dispose of it after happy days sherrye
