Hi all. I just found out today i am official! Number 2143; wow what a thrill I got reading the email. I am a country girl through and through...unfortunately I have been city bound for the last 25 years. I still keep it real for myself; my neighbors don't even bat an eye when i till up half the front yard for my summer garden(best soil and sunlight). We had planned to move back to my old home this Fall. However, it just wasn't in the stars for me right now. But I will get back to the country just as soon as I can. I am so looking forward to having a chicken coop full of hens, a milk cow(or goat; I cannot decide), and a garden as big as I can handle.
I look forward to chatting with y'all and learning even more about living a simple life.
Mellee

Hello Melissa. Welcome from Ga. I have milk goats and soon will have a calf and hopefully be milking a cow. We'll see. She's a Red Angus but I raised her from a day old. She's pretty friendly. I am hoping to milk her when she has her calf in March. I am going to try. I also have 2 milk goats I am milking right now. I do prefer goat milk over cow. But can drink either one. I hope you get some of both! And some chiclens too.

Welcome from a Florida farmgirl at heart who wishes she could live back in the country too. Like you said, I will one day. I planted a garden this year in the backyard. Cleared out a place and my dh put in a raised planter about 3 feet high for my seedlings, then we transplant them when their ready for the ground. My summer garden died, so I took all the seeds from one of my spaghetti squash I bought that was organic and planted them all in the box. Well, so far about two or three are growing. I'll post a picture in the garden section. Now, if the rain doesn't kill them I'll have squash at last!

Welcome to the sisterhood Melissa!!
I'm with you in wanting chickens, I had to give mine to a friend when we moved to our current house (24yrs ago). We are looking forword to the time when we can once again have a few acres, chickens, a couple of pigs, and possibly a milk cow. Do you know anything about miniature Jersies? I have been trying to get more information about them. I have a vegetable garden each year although this year the weather has been uncooperative, about the only thing that did well was the cabbage. The tomatoes will not have time to ripen on the vine this season. But "there's always next year", farmgirls are naturally optomistic! I would enjoy hearing about NH, the weather, scenery, agriculture, etc. The New England states hold a special fasination for me, don't know why, I've never even been there but feel that's where I was supposed to be. Sorry, I didn't mean to prattle, I really just wanted to welcome you!!
