Kathy and Karin, you are so nice to check out my blog and my aprons. I haven't been drafting my own patterns for very long, just thought I'd give it a whirl with these aprons. Although, I have done lots of sewing and altering of patterns and costumes for a while now. I too can't seem to get the patterned aprons to fit me, so I decided to just make them the way I like them. I got thinking, I bet our foremothers didn't always have patterns, so if they could do it, so could I. I've got the back of a new pattern drafted and pinned on my dear Bertie...my model without the clothing and I really like this back! It buttons at the neckline, but is open down the back. The front will be in a V line from the waist up with a neckline that does not choke...cannot stand anything up and around my neckline, so I refuse to design an apron with a tight neckline....argh. I have an apron in mind after this one that I think will have a really unique and pretty back on it. I was looking at the 40's apron that was mentioned by someone, and I've got that drafted in my head right now. I sketched it out on paper and am studying the larger figure to see how best to drape it before I draft it out on paper and muslin. But I know that I can get it done. I already have in my mind how to sew it together and the skirt part will be no problem, just need to get the curves right!
I had never really thought of designing and selling patterns...might have to think about it though. If you are an abundantly blessed farmgirl and would like to be a beta tester for my patterns, email me and I'll send you one, but you have to give me feedback on it if you would please? It will be hand drawn on brown kraft paper with hand drawn construction instructions and suggestions.
Lots of love and hugs, Georgann |

Just as soon as I'm done moving I would love to "test" one of your patterns. I'm a 22-24 and I am big busted. On one web site I used a screen name of Kurvy Kathy and did I ever get some interesting and rude attention from men! I just thought it did a good job describing me. I learned my lesson with that one.
I haven't sewed in a while but back when I was sewing I even did display work for Joanne Fabrics back when they were really a fabric store. Did that ever teach me a lot!!
Where do you get the paper that you use for your patterns and I would imagine that having a dress form really helps.

Kathigene, after you get settled in, just let me know and I'll get one of them to you. Thanks...I just picked up a roll of kraft paper from WalMart. I might transfer the patterns onto some pellon though. That would be a nice tough pattern and a bit lighter weight and easier to manage. It would last through bunches of pinnings. Wow, a display seamstress....cool. I love seeing what Hancock displays. Haven't been over to Joanns in ages. I LOVE my dress forms. Found the little one in a junk store for less than $30 and the my size one I ordered online. It is a Uniquely You, but I don't have it sized to me yet due to my bilateral hand surgeries. I'm recovering, but still not quite there yet.
Well gotta get some sleep, Thanks and let me know when you are ready. Georgann |

I am not a rubens type of female but I think you would do real well at this and have a real nice little side business which could develope into a primary business. I am about a size 9-10 and 5 foot 7inches tall 130 pounds. But my mother in law is this type of person and she is always complaining that she can not find a good apron. If your business got going you could also do made to order not just patterns and higher someone to just make aprons as the patterns would have recovered any investment cost by then. Just some ideas.
P.S. it would be good to make childrens aproons to as that is real hard to find

Sunshine, I'm ashamed to say I haven't sent out your buttons either. I've been so busy lately but I'm going to try and catch up this week. I did finally start a blog and posted the picture of my first apron. I wear it all the time! I have to go fax some stuff for a refinance but will work on aprons and getting buttons ready to mail when I get back.

Aunt george I love your new patterns I hope you have fun making them if they come out like the rest of your stuff they will be georges no doubt about it. I posted some stuff on this site mjf. I manly posted so that you and nancy jo could see some of the stuff I make I hope you like the pictures I never do well with typing so that part probably isn't so good but it does explain what is in the pictures talk to you latter I hope all are well in your family. Oh I forgot to tell you I loved the pictures of your daughters in the yard it looked so much like a fairy mist day to me. Growing up in california we had lots of fog and your humidity in the pictures kind of reminded me of that fog as it was rolling in I always thought it was like a mist for the fairies to hide in and so I guess that means you have two fairy children.

Just finished a new apron design. The pattern I made is unique and does not pull on the shoulders. The top part of the full apron is made with a patriotic tea towel, that is appliqued with a chiken of all things! Stop by my blog and take a peek if you get a chance. This one will fit up to a 52" bustline without pulling on the shoulders (I hope it won't pull anyway.) This was really easy and fun to make! Thanks Sunshine for stopping by my blog and looking at the pumpkin plants and flowers!
Hope all are well....miss being here....work is progressing like any new job does. ;( Auntgeorge http://auntgeorgeshouse.blogspot.com/ |

Thank you Buttercup! It is very easy to make an apron. Dont really even need a pattern anymore! I'm sure you will do great. Just be creative and open to ideas like tablecloths on the markdown table at the PX. Placemats, even skirts that you don't want anymore can be redone into an apron. I have been challenging myself to come up with different aprons from different sources! I have quite a few on the cutting table right now. I have two little girls to sew for too and have an idea for a cute little fancy dancy "apron" shorts cover. I found some floaty gauzey daisy print that I am going to add to a simple buttoned denim waistband. They will just wrap them around their waste, button them on and go! They will of course have to wear them over shorts or another skirt. Just fun, new wave, kicky "aprons" LOL Thanks again, if ya want to talk any apron ideas...just email me! So glad you are here with us Buttercup!! How's the weather in Japan today. 80's here in Virginia. Wore a 50 sunblock today and still got a sunburn! ARGH

....Uggggg it is 91 today and I think 2000%humidity(<<<this from someone who hates muggy weather ) I have only poked my head out today. But it is beautiful to look at. Beautiful blue skies, georgeous blues in the ocean, and cicadas (sp?) singing and butterflys flitting about...but I will sit right here in my library and LOOK at it all!! LOL besides I have 8 kids in the house today and am not brave enough (or maybe nutz enough?!?) to go out with them all! You know what might be really lovely? An apron made from an old kimono! I dont know if I could do it or not but maybe in the fall when we have all the bazares over here I can send you one in exchange for a picture of it to smile at and put in my scrapbook? I bet you could make a lovely one or two! Anyway I will see what I can find in terms of a pattern and see if I can come up with something that looks like an apron! Just need to wait for my craft table (we dont have a table here at all just a Japanese table which sits on the floor so I am waiting to get myself a cornor desk and table so I can start crafting and sewing again) Thank you for offering to help me with ideas and such and for your beautiful inspirations you shared with us all!!! Till Next Time...

If you send me a kimono from the bizaare, I'll send you back a lovely apron! (I'll keep the scraps for lovely doll clothes or lavendar sachets or something!) :)
Oh, my gosh, I forgot Japan is in a subtropical zone...you poor thing. I would hate it. I hate the summers here in the south. I'm a Midwestern gal by birth and upbringing. And you are welcome for the photos and inspiration. I get so much inspiration from the farmgirls around here! I've started sewing and writing again because of them!
Stay cool girlfriend! Georgann |

Aunt George, Everyday you amaze me, your apron ideas are just great. Seems they are coming on fast and furious, just can't hardly sew them up fast enough to keep up with the ideas. never never bored!! Wouldn't that be great if buttercup sent you some material from Japan? And yes by all means thoses aprons for the nurses would be a great idea, they could be in hospitals all over the country, oh these ideas are BIG. You know there is almost no time for sleep here. Nancy, I woke up this morning with a new pattern fully developed in my mind....LOL......I swear I'm possessed by the apron fairy. LOL. Had an idea for the Apple Pie apron. Now, I need to go and get some apple fabric. I have a beautiful red, white and blue homespun for this apron. It is going to be a full apron that you do not have to tie. I saw one out on the internet and it came to me while sleeping how to put it together by using the Apple Pie tea towel. LOL I'll post it later today if I can get it done. I think it will be really cute.
Buttercup, Really. Each apron I make is hopefully unique. I try to let the fabric "tell" me what to do with it. Yes, be glad to make you one in exchange for the left over fabric. I can do quite a bit with a wee bit of fabric! Keep your eyes open for discarded, inexpensive clothing items tablecloths, kitchen towels, etc. They can be amazingly repurposed into very unique aprons!! The Nancy Jo apron was worked up from an elastic wasted long skirt I made for my daughter's third grade play! It is on my blog. Click on June posts and scroll down to June 12 and June 13th. NANCY JO....can I put your photo wearing the apron in my blog? You can email me through MJ's board. Just click on my name. Georgann |

Georgann, Thank you!! I will keep my eyes open. It may take a while because the bazares are usually what I hit, but I will keep you in mind and see what I can find come fall!! **am excited** I have your blog saved and I will keep looking for new photos! I went to nursing school and would have LOVED to have had a good apron to wear with many pockets and loops to hook things on... I think it is a GREAT idea! If you do make one, please post a photo for us to enjoy!! Til Next Time!!

My husband is this computer wizard and wrote a line of code for me to copy, cut and paste into the html control page, then I just put in the URL, then the hover line and then the title. I could send it to you, and a snapshot of where to put it if you would like.

Glad they liked them. The colors are more vibrant in person. The pink and yellow are vintage fabric. The blue is new fabric. They all have vintage rick rack on them and are all cotton. I have them wrapped individually, a blue ribbon an daisy on the blue package. A pink ribbon and pink flower on the pink apron and a yellow ribbon and yellow flower on the yellow apron. Sunshine, your package is tied with pink vintage rick rack. You will know it is yours when you see it.
Can hardly wait until they get them. Like I said they are not perfect, but they are very wearable and tough. They withstand alot.
Love and hugs, Georgann |
