Thank you! I've had that fabric for years. Got it on the dollar table at Wal-Mart. It is a really nice cotton with a soft hand, very sturdy. I love the colors in it. I'm so glad you think it is pretty. I never know if what I think is pretty will appeal to another's eye. Thanks again Buttercup,

Georgann, another great apron, who needs to sleep anyway. must see a picture of you wearing it. Your little one looks so cute, how nice that the girls take such an interest in what you are doing.

HI guys! After a two week vacation to Washington state, I am ready to sew. I got the Paisley Pincushion pattern (busy bias) and can't wait to make it. I also bought a 1965 Woman's Day set of tunic patterns, mostly for the shapes.

I have a sewing question: How the heck does one deal with curves? One of the tunic aprons has scallops (doesn't have any directions- this is the only one of the eight that was cut) and I can't figure out how to make the curves hemmed or whatever. Anyway, I'm having that trouble with anything that has curves.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks-
Kim in NC

I break cameras....LOL....so no photo of me in an apron...LOL. My favorite that I wear everyday is the Minerva Jane half apron. So soft. The girls love to be in my estrogen room. They have doll clothes cut out, out of scraps right now.....I'm so glad they are taking an interest in sewing and designing.

Thanks again,
Georgann

Ooooo Kim, I was wondering that too. Nancy Jo sent me a book about aprons an in it is the answer. Just do a facing rather than try to hem it. It would be very easy to do that, or you could do a double thickness and self face the skirt part. If you go to my blog and find the white apron with the chicken pocket, click on the photo and you can see how the maker of that apron handled the scallops with a facing....great idea.

(Here is a link to the June Archive...scroll down to June 17th. Click on the white apron photo and it will enlarge. http://auntgeorgeshouse.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_auntgeorgeshouse_archive.html)

I've been meaning to try this technique. You will need to do some clipping of the curves to get those tight curves to lie down flat.

Glad you are back from vacation! Hope you had a great time!

Oh- I forgot to say- I went to the Salvation Army store and the Hospice thrift store this week- 50 percent off sales! Anyway, I got some fabric cheap, also...found a set of panel curtains with faux batenburg (sp?) lace stuff at the bottom. Thought they might would for dd's room, but once I help them up to my waist, I realized that all I would have to add were sashes and they would become aprons really quickly. Two lacey cotton aprons for $1- not bad, huh?

PS- DD bought skates and a Barbie plane at the thrift store too. I think she's hooked!

PPS- What the heck's a facing? Sorry- sewing stupid here. Learning though! :)

Your trip to the thrift stores sounds fantastic. My girls love going too, there are such treasures there! Great idea for the curtains. I made one out of an old tablecloth that turned out great.

Here is a really nice instructional site for facings.

Here is another:

Oh my....look what I just found....how to do a scalloped edge on a skirt, using a facing!! :)

Have fun!!

hey I looked at that vintage piece of lace you sent that you used on the recycled embroidered tablecloth apron ( not sure what else to call it except beautiful) It is a piece of bobbin lace made with white and blue thread that is made by twisting sting (thread) around each other and using straight pins until far enough away from the area to remove pins and set the lace free. I know not a good explanation but yes I can reproduce it. Just type in bobbin lace making in goggle and you will probably fine a good example. I do know how to make this lace I learned how from Dale Palmaroy ( aka The Mad tatter also who taught me tatting ) and Elisabeth Peterson treasure of the beehive lacers a guild of utah lace makers. I hopes this helps if you identify lace types.

AUNT GEORGE Is just real busy with her new job, she has posted a few times in the last few days, I know on the barter site she wants my cookbooks. And last week she said she is bone tired when she gets home and done by seven at night. I think we all miss her.

I'm still here, but just barely alive. It is hard being 50 and going back to a busy med-surg unit. I have so many ideas for aprons in my head, but just bone tired. I'll be back on later tonight....if I don't pass out first! LOL....I love you all and thank you for noticing my MIA status!

Phew....been a long time! Sorry all, just been really busy with work and exhaustion. Hard for this old body to go from sick leave to 32+hours per week in the hospital. Passing out most every night at 9 or so and up at 4:30. I have been sewing though here and there when I can fit in a few minutes. I have posted a couple of projects on my blog today....finally.

Hope you are all having lots of fun without me....sniff, sniff.....shor do miss ya'll.

Hugs and love to you all,
Georgann

Left you a comment on your blog, so glad to see you are on the old mj site again. That Florence Nightengale thing can wear a person out, so remember to take care of yourself first so you can take care of others. See once in a while I say something deep.

Words can do no justice to the beautiful long jumper Georgann made for me - I have had it on since it came in the mail - you are the mose exquisite seamstress I have ever know. All of Georgann's items are stitched with "magical" stitches hehehe Georgann knows what I mean - This very talented lady needs to have a shop to sell her items.........
I love it Aunt George and I will cherish it forever as I do your friendship!
