I live off of Highway 2 on Allen Rd. It's north of you, just across the Pend Oreille County line. Married to my husband of 21 years, he teaches at Riverside Middle School. We have a 16 year old son, Lacy the lab-mix, Rexi the Shih Tzu/chiauhua mix, 4 buff orpington laying hens and 3 Aracauna laying hens. I love your livinginasnowglobe! How perfect for our area!
I enjoy doing all sorts of crafty things, handwork, canning and baking and gardening. When we get our date for our next get-together I"ll make sure you get it. You too Sherry!

Farmgirl and luvin' it!

Oh! An adult playdate. Sounds like fun. My daughters told me I should start a blog, and livinginasnow-globe sounded like a fitting name.

Claudia, We do not have snow yet. If Chewelah got some it's probably in the ski area. We are at about 2300 feet where we live (southwest of Colville) and we have to go up a long and steep county road to get here. It can be snowing here at the house, freezing rain halfway down the hill and raining in the valley. But I love it and since we don't have to go into town for work or anything it works out well. We do have recreational property near the lakes along Tiger Highway and winter comes there much early. JoAnn

Yes, I actually forgot that part of your area is in the banana belt. Had some relatives who lived in Kettle Falls. It was always much more mild than Deer Park. We also did not get snow as the weatheman said we might. It was freezing, but I could see the stars. No precip last night! Yeah!

Laura, I was reading your blog and tried to post--don't think it went through. You were talking about finding mushrooms. My husband is a retired mycologist and if you post them he might be able to identify them. JoAnn

Laura, Jim can possible identify some but there are no common names and it would just confuse you: ) None are edible. If you look on the undersides of the mushrooms some will have gills and some pores. The ones with pores are called boletes. Some are very delicious others will make you visit the bathroom a lot: ) Mushrooms are beautiful to look at kinda like enjoying wildflowers. We have been looking for the delicious chanterelles in northeastern Washington since we moved here 6 years ago with no luck. Been told it's too dry and the nearest is Priest Lake Idaho where indeed we found lots. Well two days ago Jim came back from a walk about 5 miles from our house and we found over 3 gallons of them! They hadn't been frozen either. It will be interesting to see if they will be there next year. We did have a pretty wet summer. JoAnn

JoAnn, thank you and thank Jim, too. We thought they weren't edible. They are interesting to look at. When I get to getting the pictures off of the camera, there will be more pictures of some copper colored ones. Did Jim say if these are mushrooms or toadstools, and whats the difference between them?

A mushroom is the fruiting body of a fungus. So technically all the pictures were of mushrooms. Some people refer to mushrooms that are poisonous as toadstools. JoAnn

Thank you JoAnn, now I know. You'd think with all those mushrooms there would at least be one fairy. But then again, none were in a ring.
