Still at such a loss. Now a mom, your family and that dear little boy have been on my mind almost every single minute. I can scarcely look at Violet without thinking, "how?"

Thank you all for your prayers and support. THe hospital here has laptops available for rental so it has been nice to be able to update people when he sleeps. He is in angry this morning, and I don't blame him. He wanted me to go sit in the corner so here I am. He probably doesn't understand why I am allowing all this to happen to him, and right now I don't understand why God is allowing it to happen to him. I'm terrified about the pathology reports that will come back sometime later this week and keep praying that it will be good news and be the type of Wilms Tumor that responds well to treatment.
Jacob had a fairly good night. He is able to control his pain with the push of a button. He is still trying to be such a tough boy and I keep trying to let him know that it is okay to push the button for some relief. He did urinate last night, which is good as they were about to put the catheter back in him. He can have more fluids today and some JELLO if he gets hungry.
Some of you asked if you could send him cards...he would love that. He also has a 7 year old sister, Becca, and a 2 year old brother, Joe, that may like some mail to feel extra special too. Their world has now been changed as well. Our address: Flesher Family 708 E Butler St Manchester, IA 52057
I'm trying to update my blog whenever there is news as well so you can check it out at www.trenchesofmommyhood.blogspot.com
Thank you all for being here for me, -Elizabeth |

No news on the report yet. It may not be until Friday or even later due to the holiday coming up. I'm trying to put my faith in God on this one and not dwell on the fear.
Otherwise, things are looking good. It's been a bit rough for him today, just because he is awake more and they are needing him to do more (such as try to walk around). His pain is being managed quite well and it is only really bothersome when he has to cough or the gas pains. His incisions are healing nicely and the chest tube should be coming out tomorrow. He has been begging for a cookie all day and wouldn't eat the JELLO so one of the surgeons said "Let him eat a cookie!" He ate half of it and is content now and watching Curious George on tv. The surgeon mentioned *maybe* being able to come home on Christmas, so we shall see. -Elizabeth |

Then that is what we will pray for today. It is good to hear that he is doing well after the surgery. The movement & the coughing are actually good for him even though it hurts. Father God, I pray that you would heal jacob's body enough that he would be able to go home for Christmas. I pray also that the reports would be good. Strengthen Mom & helps her to rest when she can-comfort her in this time of uncertainty. Be with her & let her feel your presence. Amen.

God bless you all, Elizabeth! It's probably a good sign when he's angry - it's a sign of a true fighter, I'd say! I don't understand why he has to go through this, either, and it breaks my heart. Stay strong... We'll just keep the faith and keep on praying! I so hope he'll be able to make it home for Christmas. Blessings and hugs - Nini

I am praying faithfully for your family and especially for little Jacob. I know how hard this journey was with my husband. It is scary and seems forever til the pathology report comes in. Stand strong in your faith and I will tell you what my pastor told me ... Go to the chapel, if they have one, and tell God you don't understand why Jacob and your family. Tell HIm you are mad, angry, scared. Whatever emotions you are having. He wants you to speak with Him... good or bad !! It was a great release for me. I pray it will be the same for you. My heart is with you and your family. My prayers will continue and I have started the prayer chains at every church I have contact with !! Big sister hugs...

Hello darling friends!
I know that Elizabeth mentioned sending cards and gifts to her other children as well as Jacob and I cannot emphasize how important that is.
there is an organization called SuperSibs and I would encourage anyone and everyone to google it and check it out. AMAZING nonprofit for kids who are the siblings of children with cancer. The siblings are called, "Shadow Survivors" and I remember being haunted the first time I read those words..
When Aria was first diagnosed, she was overwhelmed with boxes and boxes of toys and activities..things people thought she would love to do while in the hospital. Heck I thought she'd love to paint, draw, color, or do crafts and so forth. To my utter astonishment, Aria didn't want to do any of those kinds of things for about 18 months! Yea, that's no typo..For an entire year and a half, she didn't have the energy to do much of anything. She'd play for 10 - 20 minutes here and there but she mostly watched movies, and slept. Those bursts of energy and playfulness were nuggets of sustenance for me. I lived for those moments! For the first 10 months of her treatment, she was in and out of the hospital and we were in and out of the oncology clinic several times a week sometimes. Cancer was a full time occupation and it was the worst! Trust me, accepting something you despise and I mean hate with every fiber of your being is a true spiritual experience. It has to be accepted on some level otherwise you perish but getting to that place is a length process and for me, it sure wasn't pretty! I kicked, screamed, swore, spit, lamented but I never once languished and that is due to THIS FORUM!! Right here.
YOU YOU YOU YOU YOU!! Farmgirls from all over the world propped me up, kept me going..I'll never forget it for as long as I live!
Still, I came to know misery mixed with intense beauty. In addition to all of it, were my other 2 children. My son was 6 at the time and my daughter was 1. They needed to play. They needed to be kids but they also needed to be with Aria and had to be carted to and from the hospital constantly. Rianna, my daughter, grew up there. Reo has incredibly fond memories of being there. He was the big boy, given all kinds of important jobs to do, like unplugging Aria's chemo pump, handing alcohol pads to the nurses, changing the volume control on the bed controls and so forth. But he was mostly present to Aria, which mattered not only to her but to him. He needed to be with her. I can't explain it. He just did.
I'm writing all of this because the juggling that has to happen is so intense on top of facing that one of your children is fighting for their lives. Please know that you CAN imagine the stress. You can..I know you can..You have..You did with you and you acted so magnificently to save and support me. It was one of the most profound experiences of my life.
Now Elizabeth needs that and her Jacob and other children. So please shower them all...Her other children need to know how special and important they are. They need to know that being sick and getting presents is not a good thing. They can't possibly understand that, which is why sending them special things is so important...so they can know that being in the support role is essential to Jacob's healing...And it is!!!
Oh Farmgirls, it is a wretched journey. I am full of sorrow for this family. I am full of confidence too. They shall endure. I am so happy to know that you are all with them, keeping them in your thoughts and prayers. It meant the world to me...still does. I will mean everything to them too..
Thank you ladies. There are no finer women than farmgirls. My love for you leaps and twirls!! blessings to you all! ~julia
