Kristina, I've heard this before because canned goods are all lined with a plastic liner. I wonder if it is in the paper containers, as well. So much of canned goods are now available in the paper cartons, too. (Things like broth and soup). Thanks for sharing.

I did a lot of research on this when I first read an article about BPA and canned foods. It that if don't want to stop buying cans but want to avoid bpa the biggest thing to avoid is canned tomatoes. The acid breaks down the plastic liner and leaches the BPA into the food. Low acid foods have a lower chance of that happening.
Also so brands don't use BPA lined cans. There is a list somewhere around the internet. I know Eden Foods is one of them.
I decided I'd start canning things myself. Especially tomatoes since they are a big staple in our house.

There's also another baddie out there .
It's BPA and it's found mostly in lesser dog and cat foods and treats. It's added to help retain moisture. It is a carconigin.
This stuff is also in some of the foods we eat. It's added as an anti caking agent. Turn over most any box of mainstream cereal and it's in there.

I'm glad you mentioned the information about the canned tomato sauce. It's about the only thing I use, and want to start canning it.
My question is: What tools make canning sauce the easiest? I have a large family, so we will have to can a lot, and I would like to purchase a small appliance to remove seeds etc. Do you have suggestions? Recipes? I have canned salsa, but only canned about 15 qts over last summer.

I don't mind seeds so I just cut out the core, blanch to remove the skin, and go. Last year I used Mrs. Wages mixes just because they are easy and it helped me get into the groove of canning. This year I'm going to use recipes out of the Ball Blue Book.
You'll have tons of fun!
