Ok, you all know how hard it is for an independent farmer. My FIL has literally single handedly farmed his 300 acre farm for 30 years, after his father could no longer do it. He has struggled all this time. Last years feed corn crop was so bad, he didn't make enough to pay off the loan he needed to plant the darn thing! Now property taxes are due, and he does not have it! He has to borrow against his life insurance policy just to buy the seed for this year!
It has been so wet, so rainy, the corn will not dry down. The moisture content is too high, to sell as is, so he always has to dry it. Last night, while he slept, someone came on the farm, and stole all the wiring out of the entire grain dryer.$30,000 to replace! He is so tired, so broken, so down. The foolish sheriff who came out, said, "Well what do you want me to do?" Hello!!?!! Maybe start with a report, so we can turn it in to insurance, tax board, and then try to find who stole our livelihood!
Please, pray for my precious FIL. He so needs the encouragement and uplifting, now more than ever. He is the most incredible man I have ever met. He would drive 300+ miles to give a stranger the shirt off his back. In return, if it wasn't for bad luck, this poor man would have no luck at all.

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

Oh my gosh, Annette! That is horrible!! I am so sorry that you FIL has been having such a hard time of it! I pray that things will turn around for him soon! Is there anyway they can do a value added thing to their farm? Farm tours? Craft days or CSA?

Jeeze! The man needs a break! I will send prayers. Extra prayers too. We had our AC unit stolen off the house for the copper. I'm talking a huge unit too. It is so disheartening. Give him a hug and let him know there are farmgirls from across the country and some even further away pulling for him.

Thanks girls. He is so tired, he will not even let me bring my veggies to the fruit stand, to help them financially. He is so sick of people, he doesn't want the traffic on the frontage road. He decided he is going to apply to have the farm commercially zoned, and either put in a truck stop, or sell the farm entirely. A week ago, a energy company came in to ask if they could rent the farm, for a 25 year contract, and install solar panels. The small town the farm is in, doesn't want it, so their fighting it. The money was incredible, but honestly, if my FIL wasn't farming, he would shrivel. It's all he has ever known. My DS is the 4th generation boy to be born on our farm. He said today "his living, if not his life, is done.":'( he is an absolute part of the land. Fertile soil runs in his veins.
My DH and I are buying him a new bbq today, and going over with the kids to make dinner, and have a bonfire.(its not a burn day, so Shhhh don't tell) and I will so happily tell him y'all send prayers, hugs, and well wishes! Thank you.

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.

Awww.. the poor, dear, sweet man! I'll definitely pray for him, Annette! Miracles happen - so don't let him give up the ship yet! And all the wonderful things he has done for others and meant to his family WILL come back to him tenfold - I believe that with all my heart. Being surrounded by his loved ones and celebrating the blessing of family will definitely do his heart good. God bless him! I'll be praying! Hugs and love - Nini

Annette- Can the solar people rent part of the land- like most of it and still leave enough available for more like a hobby farm?

Nini, I truely believe that too! Oh if only he would give his heart to the Lord, and be free to KNOW he is in His hand!!! Thank you for your prayers.

Lori, I honestly have never met a more caring, hardworking, gentle giant(428lbs) with more rotten luck!!!! Thank you too, for your prayers.

Alee, I asked the same thing, they said no, and they are trying to rent the neighboring farm too. I guess its a really huge set up. It will take a year to orchestrate, so he has to plant this year for sure, and maybe next year as well. I find myself praying this goes through, cuz what they are offering him in rent a year would buy him a new, smaller farm...I just so desperately want him to hang in there, and see something good happen to him for once.
He did say yesterday to my DH, that I was the best thing to happen to the family in a whole generation!!! That made me teary and sappy all day... if I'm the best thing to happen...they are way overdue, in my opinion!

The tears I shed then, watered the flowers I harvest now.
