We had a little campout in our backyard last night. My husband finished our new fire ring and we knew we couldn't go up the mountain to camp this weekend since he had to work today (Saturday) so we set up the tent in the back yard and roasted hot dogs ...even had some company come by in time to visit and roast marshmellows with us..and then we slept out in the tent. The kids were so so excited!! It was the nicest, coolest sleeping I have had in awhile. We were chased in the house by the heat early this morning, but it was wonderful to sleep out with the night noises in our own back yard. Our little rooster, Richard woke us up with his crowing. I never realized how loud the crickets are here at night. It was just wonderful!! I recomend it to you all. The tent is still up..I may sneak out there and sleep outside again tonight!!! I posted pics on my blog if you want to see them. It was sure fun!!!

Jenny! I love your idea! We have a fire ring in our back yard, but we don't use it very often....we really should. How fun, and just think, you didn't have to leave home, spend a bunch of money...and the best part is you got to spend time with your family. Good for you, and thanks for the idea, I just might do that too! Kate |

Jenny that sounds so neat!! I use to camp often years back and was just imagining the night sounds and coolness of the night....and I love campfires and all the fun that goes with them, songs, food, socializing, and all!!! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful snapshot of an evening with you!! Hugz!! (and am off to see the pictures!! )

Jenny, sounds like fun! I had been thinking about putting the air matress on the deck to sleep, but we've had too many skunks lately to go through with it!And now we're in a foggy, cool, misty overnight thing...strange for July; more like October. I like the fire ring too :) You ARE married to a handy guy! Sharon PS Have a s'more for me!

We used to do this back home when I was a kid - esp. when friends from out of town were visiting. The adults would take our rooms and we'd get to sleep out in the tents. One summer we pretty much lived in our tent - until the horse tried to eat it.
Once we officially become owners of our land, my hubby and I will be doing this A LOT this fall, but out at the property (not here in the city...It's too scary here - too many freaks.)

Jenny - that sounds like so much fun!!! I have to say, I laughed out loud when I read that your rooster's name is "Richard." I don't know why that is so funny to me - mine are named by my little one - "Big Red" and "Prince," but I hadn't considered "regular" names...
Oh, to have a campout - even though I dont' think I can do it right now, I'm going to see if my guys want to sleep in the tent tomorrow night. Thanks for the inspiration! FUN!!!
XOXO, Libbie

aren't camp-outs just so much fun! we took our visiting grandson, james, to mammoth caves this week .. then camped out by the Nolin Lake .. honey hunk didn't believe that i would get a campfire started all by myself .. sooooo .. while he was putting up the tent .. i gathered kindling and logs from the woods .. and had a roaring fire by the time he'd finished with the tent and cots! brought my cast iron pots and pans from home and fixed a 6-course dinner .. that was deeeeee-lish! even got up the next morning and while they took a 'swim' .. i fixed sausage, eggs, homefries, biscuits (a tad burnt) and coffee!!! it was a bit humid before the sun set .. but a nice little breeze wafting through the tent screens all night.
we have decided that spring and autumn would be more delightful times to go camping here in kentucky though! i still want one of those wooden-floor tent thingies that maryjane shows in her book! (it's on my list!!!)
