I knew it was going to be bad when there was a message on my phone from my husband, Brad, "Hi honey, I cut the @#$# out of my hand and I'm on the way to the ER." Brad usually tries to talk me into sewing and patching him up so him driving himself to the ER means it was serious, even to him.

He has a painful nerve disease called RSD (Reflexive Sympathetic Dystrophy) on the left side of his body and if it wasn't for the Dorsal Column Stimulator to help control the pain, he would have committed suicide by now.

Want to take a guess what hand he cut the you-know-what out of? Same side... Without waiting for me to come home that day, he decided to cut a piece of trim for a window he installed over the weekend. Using his brand new skill saw... his left hand seized and got in the way of the blade. He didn't loose any fingers, yet, but the last three fingers are very torn up. One of the joints may need to be amputated.

RSD has been known to "move" when it's aggravated severely, it's how it moved from Brad's hand to his left foot/leg. My fear is that this may cause the RSD to move into his right side. All we can do is pray it doesn't and keep an eye out if it does. I honestly do not believe my husband can deal with anymore long term pain.

Please keep him in your mind if you don't mind when you say your prayers or meditate. I believe any extra help is a good thing.

Thank you all!

Cyn

Cynthia, You will both be in my prayers. I hope everything is turning out ok. I have a husband who does silly things like that too. Kind of like having an extra child(lol). I wish him a quick recovery and no more pain.

Thank you all... he hasn't been able to sleep more than an hour at a time, the perfect spot in the house for napping in on the couch so that's where I have him. Some husband's are like children! They want to be in the middle of it all! The tip of his ring finger is crooked... I know it should be straightened but I'm not the one that's going to do it. I'll leave it for the doctor who can give him nice pain meds first.

He hasn't been too big a pain with this so I'll count my blessings! I'm for once I'm thankful it's hot as fire here so he's not tempted to go outside to finish that window!

Thank you again...

Oh dear how dreadful for him and you. My dh has essential tremors very bad and I have to help him with lots of stuff, but I thank the Lord that he does not have pain (he has other stuff too - but we get on ok). I don't let him do much - watch tv, feed the dogs, read newspapers, but definitely no power tools!! For sure will pray for health and healing and no further episodes in the other side of his body - prayers for strength for you too.

{hugs} to you, Cyn.

To be honest, I'm the one who lays on the couch when sick -- dh takes medicine for whatever it is, goes to bed, and comes out when he's well. Thank goodness, though, neither of us are under the weather often.

I hope your dh is feeling much better soon!

Thank you again all... I read to my husband your names and from where you sent your well wishes... he smiled and said "thank you" too.

He sees the nurse Thursday to have his bandages changed. I'll let you know what is said...

hugs to all,

Oh Cyn,

My heart goes out to your husband. My MIL had RSD for fifteen years, and the suffering was very extreme. I know most anything can start the RSD process... and it does take courage to live with it. You also need prayer as you love and care for this man (yep, and keep him away from dangerous tools, too! LOL) I will be praying for both of you.

Love,
Ann

Thank you Fran, Ann, Kristi, and Kate!
His stitches were removed today and he's wearing band-aids. He only has feeling on part of his ring finger. The RSD appeaers to be staying in place. He's been feeling ill this past week so I'm making him see his regular doctor soon. He was in better spirits today, he even called me to tell me he misses me and loved me... I needed to hear that more than I knew.

Thank you for all the prayers!

Oh, I'm glad the RSD stayed and didn't travel-- and that he's down to bandaids. Hope he feels better soon in all respects. Those messages of love ARE wonderful. I like them, too. (and get lots )

He's not doing real good. On top of the RSD he has Hep C. I discovered that since cutting his fingers he's been taking large amounts of Motrin everyday. It's my understanding that anything like that can cause problems with your liver. I've had to take the Motrin away so he doesn't just take it cause it's there. He's very tired all the time, I woke him at 9:00 for breakfast, and he's back asleep at 11:00. I'm going to wake him at noon so we can take a trip into Little Rock, he'll probably sleep the whole way and back.
It's days like this that depress me the most. I really, really miss the man I married. He's in there somewhere I know it so I'm still living in hope.

Thanks for caring and asking...just wish it was happier news.
Cyn

Cyn,
Sorry the news isn't better. Is the RSD or the Hep C making him so sleepy? I'm sure he wishes he could be back to normal too. Hang in there and you know we are all praying for you two. Living in hope is sometimes the best thing we can do.

Today was a good day. I hope it was the Hep C. Thankfully the liver is the best organ at repairing itself so maybe this is an upswing for him. Thank you for all the prayers!
