Hi, my name is Jan. I have been a member for some time now, but never posted, so here goes. I live in the county, but in a neighborhood now, but am trying to find a small farmette. I have a corgi dog, two cats here at home and two horses that I board not far from my house. I have loved the country all of my life! When growing up my favorite thing to do was to go visit my great-grandmother on her farm. She had chickens, dogs and loved to quilt. Oh, could she cook! I bought my first horse when I was nine and had one for all of my growing up. We had a farm, but mom didn't want to live in the country so we were weekend farmers. My job when I was in HS and college was to go out everyday and take care of the horses. Loved it! Well, got married, husband didn't care anything about horses or country life, so after my last mare passed, I didn't get another horse until 2010. My children are now in their 30's.
I am a quilt instructor, make and repair quilts for people and work PT at a small quilt shop here. I have a degree in music and have taught piano lessons for over 30 years. My husband and I have been living seperatly for about 2 years, not sure how this is going to turn out.
I love to cook when I have time and spend time with my grandchildren. The old, country ways are the best for me, but not my family. They just don't understand. They think I am a little nuts.
Well, thats it for now. Looking forward to meeting some of you farmgirls!

Oh for the simple life: family, quilts, corgi's, horses, homemade everything.

Hi Jan:
We have many things in common; love for dogs and cats, music degrees, and teaching piano. There are a few ladies on MJF with music degrees. Oh, and I would love to quilt but have ten thumbs. LOL. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome Jan! My family is like yours - they think I'm crazy for wanting a farm of my own :). But I don't care. I can't wait until I actually have one of my own, & can start being self sufficient :).

Sorry you have the same problem that I do. Like you, I don't care anymore either. I wasted a lot of years trying to make everybody happy at my own expense. Now that I am a little wiser and a lot older I'm trying very hard to go for what I want. Looking forward to trying to be self sufficient too.

You-all are so nice! Have made me feel very welcome already!
Today is a beautiful day here in Kansas, how I wish I had the time to go out on my deck and just sit a spell....but.....too much to do today! Do hope I can get out and do some ground work with my mare and maybe ride my gelding, Jasper.
Have my small quilting sewing group tonight, have to get ready for that. I am behind 2 months on our block exchange, must get caught up today.

Welcome Jan!
I too, confuse my family as to why I want to raise chickens. They just scratch their heads. But I have loved the country all my life, and even at this later stage in life, I am still dreaming of my farm and hoping to find a farmette soon too! So we are a little similar there.
This is a wonderful place. I have just stated with swapping and am excited about that. They even have quilt square swaps sometimes!
Hugs,
Terri

Jan... never mind what your family thinks..... if being 'country' brings a smile to your face and joy to your heart then by all means follow your heart & smile.
Some people, family included, just don't get it, and probably never will... and that's ok.
Don't base your 'self' on what others expect or demand of you.
If you are Happy, others around you will be Happy,,, if they aren't it's their loss.
Now go out and play, be happy, chase your smile and then come sit at the MJF table and chat with us till the cows come home!

Everyone, you-all are so nice! I am so glad that I joined with you porchies.
Worked at the quilt shop today, did inventory . Hopefully that will be over by next week when I work again!
Supposed to be nice again tomorrow, if so hope to get to go on a nice long ride. Jasper needs to be riden and worked with, he was a naughty boy yesterday.
Hope everybody has a great weekend.
Hugs, Jan
