Hi all,
I may have to leave again for back east (New York). We just got back from vacation, but my father's ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) has just about got the best of him. I've been waiting for two days to hear the bad news & to decide when I have to leave. That's so hard ... just waiting. If I didn't have a job, I would just leave now. This disease is terrible. It takes your body but leaves your mind. Two weeks ago, he couldn't even lift his arms. But we all got to see him and say we loved him (my children and I) so we just wait now.
I'm sorry - I'm not whining, just sort of thinking out loud to my farmgirl friends. I know one thing for sure - I am going to keep living each day to the fullest, cuz time flies.

Dear Debbie, Am sorry to hear about your dad. I hope you have safe travels and that although it's a sad time for you and your family I hope that during this time you can hold on to all your fond memories of your dad and gather strength from them as well as knowing that no longer will your dad have to suffer through a debilitating disease but that he'd want you all to continue to carry on happy lives. My thoughts will be with you. Sincerely and with farmgirl hugs, Tina

Thank you both.
Apparently it is very rare to inherit this disease. I don't know how he got it, but for him it seemed to go very quickly. Usually once diagnosed, one can live for 2 to 5 years. There's no cure right now. We had our differences in the past, but thanks to the words of a certain farmgirl on the forum and my farmgirl friends here in town, I saw that I was just wasting time and energy - and I made my peace. For that I am thankful. For the both of us.

| just remember: you will never regret say "i love you " to your dad one last time. No matter what happened in the past. Family comes first, above work. I found out the hard way. I miss my dad TERRABLY. He was my north star. You are in our thoughts and may God hold you in his hands at this time. Best wishs, Cindi |

Debbie, I am keeping you, your dad, & your family in my prayers. A dear friend of mine went through this a few years ago when her father had ALS, and my heart goes out to you & your family.
On a side note, it's posts like yours that make me even more grateful for this site -- where we can come and share our successes and, in cases like this, our hurts and problems and tragedies, and we know others care and will support us.
Please keep us posted. And please try to find some time to pamper yourself -- you're under lots of stress emotionall and physically and need to replenish your reserves.
God bless!

Again, thank you all for your support and prayers and kind words. I'll be leaving for NY tomorrow morning. My dad passed away peacefully yesterday afternoon. I'll be gone until next Monday.
Sending my love out to you all,
Debbie
