I've been looking at this vintage pram for the last few days while driving up our street...the firs time I saw it, I slammed on the brakes and started to hop out and thought, "my husband will KILL me!" and so I've refrained, even gone so far as too look to the other side of the street when I pass the driveway it sits at...

Last night, when driving home with my husband, he slowed down and said, "Do you want that pram? It's been sitting out here and I was sure you'd seen it..." YES! YES! YES! I WANT THAT PRAM!!!!! and so I hopped out and put it in the back.

It's a little rough around the curve, but I think i can find some waxed canvas to stitch there. The mattress is in great shape, and someone took great care to make a lining for it in the last few years, so I'm thinking it was used for a wee one. The lining washed up really nicely, and I'll get a bassinette sheet for the mattress. Violet will be getting a "big girl bed" near October, so this will go in her room to hold all her doll babies and stuffed animals. You can tell, she's pretty excited about it :)

It's really cool and so well made (like all things were at that time.) The wheels, spokes and frame are steel, so it's rather heavy. I just think it will be a good thing to keep all those animals in instead of the multitudes of baskets and stuff lining the floor.

It's funny, my husband is more excited than me, I think!

What a lucky find! What are you going to do with it?

We're going to clean it up, nabrown, and put it in my daughters room when we get the "big girl bed" in a month or so. We'll use it to hold the myriad of stuffed animals and baby dolls she loves so much! Currently, they are in lovely, but space-taking baskets and containers on the floor. This puts them in once space, and can be moved, too :) The other stuff can then go into the closet for other storage.

I think the whole thing is pretty funny. You looking at the other side of the road as you drive by to ease the temptation knowing the hubby will kill you if you bring it home. Then driving by and your hubby asking if you want it. So glad it worked out and so glad it was still there when the both of you drove by together! :) Violet looks pretty darn cute pushing it too!

Nice, Jonni! I'm surprised it stayed there for days. It wouldn't have around here, for sure. :)

Thanks girls--it really is a great little find. Justin worked on the wheels yesterday with a course sanding paper and they have shined up nicely! I'll go to the fabric store over the weekend and see if I can come by a remnant that will go with the battleship blue color and see about stitching those corners. It's just where the vinyl or whatever has dried and flaked off--the fabric underneath is still there.

I was actually surprised it was still there, too, honestly--not because someone like us would pounce on it because it was a vintage cool find, but because the SCRAP people patrol our street like police in a riot zone, each and every evening, looking for stuff they can make cash on. I even had one guy try to lift my old steel seed spredder that I got for $1.00 at Goodwill before Violet was born and put it into his truck (WHILE FULL OF IMPATIENTS AND GERANIUMS) because I had it parked by the driveway as decoration. He just decided it was for the taking--and when I yelled out the front and said, "hey! What are you doing?" He responded by saying, "well, this will bring some cash and I thought you were getting rid of it. Can I go ahead and take it?" Um...NO.

So, yeah, we're all pretty excited :) Thank you for the compliments to Violet--she is really so much fun and I'm enjoying this age so much!

Wow! I can't believe the guy had the audacity to try and take the seed spreader when it was obviously being used as a planter!!!! I'm all for people trying to salvage other peoples' "junk", but only if it's by the curb and clearly the people are getting rid of it. Obviously something that is holding beautiful flowers.....NOT weeds, but beautiful flowers!!!!......is NOT junk! People just tick me off.

Anyway...didn't mean to turn this thread into something negative. Great find....Violet's a cutie! Woo hoo! :)

Yeah, Jonni. The scrap people was what I had in mind, really. Somebody even took the metal garbage can from up next to my dad's house. Even the sewet grates from the alley where we walk the dogs. That's kind of dangerous. Leaves a big hard to see hole.

Yeah, their like rabid dogs around here, Janice--it makes me mad. My friend Luke has this old brass bed that is falling apart and he refuses to put it out to the curb because of the scrappers. He's going to cut it down and put it in his car to take himself so HE can get the money :)

All of the houses that are around us, that have been foreclosed and vacant for some time have been stripped of all the copper pipes and one had to be condemned because of the damage caused after theives broke in and stole the piping. Major water problemns and high mold. Jerks.

How neat! When I was a kid, my Mom still had one that was just like that and all black. I have no idea what she did with it, but we used to play with it with baby dolls.

Love it! I remember playing with one just like it (which had been my sister's and mine as babies). I would walk up and down the street with my doll inside (and sometimes my puppy, who was not happy) . It looks as if your daughter loves this one as well!
