Jim and Ollie were wandering the woods today and Ollie tends to run around like a chicken with his head cut off and not stay by Jim. Jim heard Ollie barking like crazy and then saw a huge beautiful black wolf and a smaller grey wolf about 20 feet from them. At first Jim thought it was a black bear but then saw it was indeed a wolf. Jim called the dog and he finally did come to him and Jim noticed there was a small amount of blood near his collar. Ollie is part hound so he has these huge rolls of fat around his neck so that probably saved him from a worse fate. Jim felt privileged an a little concerned about seeing this magnificent animal.

I think it's a blessing to see these magnificent animals, as you said. I would have been in complete awe. So glad Ollie is ok! I love his name! :)

Ollie came from a no kill shelter and came with that name and he has lived up to it. He's a big sweet dufus with very very large feet. He weighs about 90 lbs now.

wolves are so very intelligent, so all they gave him was a warning nip, they are soooo family oriented , that us humans can and should learn from them, they are so very shy by nature that humans rarely see them, but then you get those who have the "Big Bad Wolf Syndrom", who think they all should die, cause they will steal their children out of their beds, and kill all livestock and wildlife for fun...ignorant people...

I'm so happy to hear all the positive comments about the wolf. The people in this neck of the woods would probably shoot before they look. It' the one negative in living in this "Forgotten Corner" of Washington.

It seems as though people either LOVE wolves or DESPISE them! I've heard of sightings in the northeastern part of our state and for me, that's very encouraging! A friend and I are pretty sure we saw a couple of wolves up in the Canadian Rockies back in the 1980s. Awesome! Like the other ladies, I'm glad your doggy is okay, too!

JoAnn, Glad that Ollie had enough fight in him to handle himself. That must have been quite a sight for your husband. I agree with not needing to kill something simply for being. Our neighbor shot and killed a mama bear and cub because he felt threatened...from inside his house. It sickened our entire neighborhood. It was very rare and no, no one hoped to have the bear move into the neighborhood, but still seemed rash...
