I need a place to rant ladies. I am so disgusted tonight and my nerves are shot. I'm almost to the point of being physically sick from all the worrying the last couple of days.

I have a cleaning service and one of my clients is an apartment complex. A couple of weeks ago I found out the complex had a unit with bedbugs. Management made it out that it was only one unit, had it treated, and that was supposed to be the end of it.

Yesterday, the manager asked me to not vacuum an entire floor of one of the buildings due to bedbugs, but wouldn't go into detail as to how many units were infected.

Today, a resident and also friend of mine messaged me on Facebook to tell me that the bugs are now in her apartment and all through the floor she lives on (which is the same floor I was asked not to vacuum). The bugs are crawling openly in the public hallway on this floor and she has even noticed them crawling on the ceiling in her apartment. I am scared to death that the whole building is completely infested.

All I can do is itch and worry that I've brought one home with me even though I strip everything off as soon as I get home and it all goes to the dryer. This is my biggest paying job. It's what pays the biggest chunk of my bills. I have 5 other clients besides this one. And one of those clients lives at the apartments. I can't bring the bugs home or take them to my other clients or other places I go. I'm afraid I'm going to have to let the apartments and the one client who lives there go.

Please ladies I could really use some good thoughts. The holidays are coming and so are the high heating bills. Please pray I find work quickly. Thanks for letting me vent.

Hugs~ Melanie

Oh my goodness, Melanie! That's horrifying!!! You will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers! I am SO sorry this is happening to you... I do pray you get a really good job - unexpectedly, miraculously and right away - and that you dídn't end up taking home any of those horrible little critters or their eggs, or that you didn't share them with other clients. I think I'm just as sick at heart for you as you are! Remember to throw out the vacuum bag and clean out every tool and supply you have thoroughly, just to be safe! Good gravy! The horror! You poor thing!!! Hugs - Nini

Oh, this is so scary. I do hope that things work out for you, but mostly I hope that you didn't carry something home to your own family.

Thank you ladies. I didn't sleep much at all last night. I don't pack my sweeper to the apartment complex thank goodness, but I have scrapped the rest of my supplies to be on the safe side. They shouldn't have any of those nasty varmints on them as I only use those supplies to clean residential, but I'm not taking any chances. I use the supplies and sweeper the management provides at the apartment complex. I do take my supplies to the one client I have at the complex, but at least the building (there are two buildings) they live in is not affected yet. At least I have this next week off from school and only a handful of clients to clean for. I will be going through my house with a fine tooth comb.

Thank you again ladies for your thoughts and prayers. It means a lot to me. :)
Hugs~ Melanie

I think if the landlord doesn't take care of the problem the board of health will force him to, you could always have your friend call that lives there. Roxanna

Time to call the state if the land lord is not taking care of it, especially if the complex accepts hud or section 8.

Melanie, I talked to daughter which works in the housing industry and she said the company she works for make the people who bring them pay for the treatment, and the state board will make the landlord get the treatment done, rather he wants to or not and we too are from Indiana. Roxanna

Sorry you are having to deal with this Melanie. I will send up a prayer for you. Do be careful about bringing home your vacuum if you use it there. they can crawl out of it and into your home. This is not a good time of year to lose work but I think if I were you I would sterilize my equipment and stay far far away from those apartments.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. After much thinking and worrying over the weekend, I came to the conclusion that I simply could not continue to work at the apartment complex. I have other clients and it occurred to me that if I take those bugs to any of my other clients, they could and rightfully so hold me financially responsible. Not a chance I can afford to take at all. Not to mention, my business and reputation would be ruined.

Exterminators are supposed to be there today to treat. Please still keep the residents and the employees that continue to work there in your thoughts. They are going through an extremely stressful time.

Hugs~ Melanie

So sorry for you! Hubby and I recently had a bed bug scare at a very nice hotel. I found it as it crawled out of a pillowcase.....all the bedding was white which made it easy to see. I immediately went to managememtn because I had a bite on my neck. I was so freaked. They put us in a suite and immediately called an expert.

I hope you can leave this complex behind soon!!!!!

I never stay in hotels any more. One never knows. How sad the residents have to deal with that and the owners. I think you made the right decision Melanie. The truth is there is only so much we can do, and you have your other clients and your own home to protect.
