Oh my goodness… I can’t stop giggling and laughing.

As some of you know, our dear old dog, our precious girl, is failing. The vet prescribed something that has helped tremendously with her incontinence issue, thankfully; but recently, she started developing an inability to sometimes make it out the door for #2. We’re very diligent about watching her and help her as much as possible; but occasionally, we’re not there when it happens, or we just don’t recognize she’s having a problem before an accident occurs. (Yeah, I know… gross… guess who always cleans THAT up?! ) As a result, we’ve been extremely careful about the foods we give her soas not to further exacerbate the problem. Our son, however, falls prey to her big, sad begging eyes and is a little more “merciful” than we are about it. Hence, my story begins…

This morning my son goes out to get the mail in his stocking feet, which prompts me to tell him to PLEASE put on his shoes for the umpteenth time (he runs through socks like water – don’t ask me why.). As usual, he scoffs at me, tells me not to worry about it – he’s only going to the mailbox and back, and stomps out the door.

Upon his return in wet stocking feet, he plops the mail in my lap and triumphantly heads back to his school work. He makes it half way across the living room and then lets out this huge guttural gasp, closes his eyes, shudders, and turns his frowning face toward me in a panic. “Mom,” he says, “what did I just step in? TELL me it isn’t what I think it is!”

I look down and bust out laughing. “It isn’t.”

You see, last night, our not-so-little man had defiantly been “merciful” once again. He had given the dog a piece of cheesy pizza crust, thinking she’d relish a special treat from his plate, despite anything Mom has warned him about so doing. Instead, she turned her nose up to it, so, thinking her belly was full, he placed it in her bowl as a treat for the morning. Apparently, she wanted him to know she wasn’t going to eat it, so at some point she returned it to the living room when we weren’t looking and left it smack-dab in the middle of the floor, at which point the sight of it had melted out of view into the background of the multi-patterned carpet. AND, apparently, it is just crunchy and squishy enough to give that oh-so-delightful feeling of squished doo-doo underfoot.

Serves him right – that’s what he gets for not listening to his mother! LOL!

I don’t know what made me laugh more – his disgust when it happened, or the look of utter relief on his face when he realized what it was… But oh my gosh, I can’t stop howling over it! As he cleaned up the mess, all he could say was, “Oh my gosh, I am SO relieved it wasn’t what I thought it was! Lesson learned, Mom… lesson learned.”

;) NOW who’s reigning triumphant?! LOL!

Hugs -

What a funny story Nini, you gave me a chuckle as well. Sons! I have a 37 year old son just like yours, LOL! After all these years mom still is never right, think he'd learn. But we love them so. What kind of dog do you have?
Hugs,
Debbie

Thanks, girls!

Debbie - she's a mutt - husky, lab, shepherd and chow. She's awesome. Awesome. AND an inspiration! :)

We told my hubby when he got home and he loved it. Seeing my son's face as he relates the store is priceless! Sometimes you just have to learn from experience, and that can be SO frustrating to a parent... but funny moments like these sure do make it easier on the soul! LOL!

Thanks for sharing the giggles, girls!

O, a trouble's a ton or a trouble's an ounce,
Or a trouble is what you make it!
And it isn't the fact that you're hurt that counts,
But only--how did you take it?
