Girls, the last time I rode a bike was in 1990. I was 16. So, passing by this tidy little white house up the street from me, seeing this bike out on the lawn with a "for sale" sign on it, I cannot say what possesed me to stop but the bike needed to be mine. And it was!!!! For $30! What they say is true--you never forget how to ride one. I hopped on it (after I wheeled it down the street so noone would be witness to me breaking my neck) and rode it around my drive way until I got the courage to head out onto the street. Boy, do I have some muscles to build up!

I realize it's a mans bike, but it's a small one, and has all the "bells and whistles". I'm going to girly it up a bit with a fabric garter around the black mesh basket on the front, but I have THE MOST PERFECT brown Longaberger market basked to affix to the rear, I can hardly stand the cuteness The farmers market and the library await!

Thanks, Janet--I'm really happy! I sense a little envy from my husband, who took these great pictures. He's off today so I strongly encouraged him to go for a ride!

I just opened up my email and got my Joann's fabric coupons so a yard of pretty natural floral calico and I'm in business! There is even a water bottle holder that is a harder plastic, made to look like leather. I might wrap that in something, too.

No worries about being a man's bike. My bike is a man's too, as are most road bikes.
Looks very comfortable! I need one of those too!
Glad it warmed your day

Hey Lisa! How are you???

Is the band playing at the Asparagus Festival?

Cool...if your bike is also a man's, then I'm in the best company. I love brown and tan so this bike is right up my alley. The seat is really comfy, big--which I need for that middle age spread ;)

Lots going on here. Jim's parents & Jim has been diagnosed with Meniere's so that has been interesting.
We are playing, at noon.
My bike is a Cannondale Road bike with clip pedals, back from when I rode like crazy. I tried again last year & my girl parts nearly died. As you well know, I am not 125 lbs anymore. Wah!
I need one like yours with a comfy seat, but I don't know how the 1 speed would fare on our hills around here. I guess I could drive into town with the bike, & then tool around Georgetown with it.

Wow-his parents AND he have been diagnosed? I did know it was genetic, but interesting in all three.

Your bike is a fancy bike--my bike is to get me to UDF and back :) I would love to ride out in the country, like where you live, but it somehow defies my logic to load my bike into a car to drive somewhere to ride it.

I don't think the 1 speed would do you much good around where you are--it was all I could do to get up my little grade on my street, but then, I have done ZERO exercising or anything remotely strenous since...1994.

Hope to see you at the festival!

Oops sorry, only Jim has the Meniere's; his parents are both in assisted living in Lebanon, so that's been rough.
See you in a few weeks!

Very cute bike!!!! I love it!!! Bike riding is so fun...and good for the environment too...:) Now you are making me want to get a bike again, just for the sheer pleasure of feeling the wind blow past me and seeing so many things I miss while driving. Currently I live in a neighborhood built on a hill...very steep...and I don't think I could ride back up....walking the dog is so painful. Thanks for sharing. Erica

Thanks, Leigh--
I've wanted a bike for a while (I had visions of pulling my baby girl down the street and to market about 4 years ago) but I just couldn't spend the money on something like that when there were other bills to pay.

But, I'm going to try to take a ride at least once a week--it's tough when you work full time. But, this is just a pleasure bike, no cross country training or anything like that. I need to work out more before I manage something like that!!!!

Me, too, Nini!
I am already "drafting" my cover for the basket--and yes, fresh flowers are a must (and some baguette, some wine). Hooray for summer and wonderful weather!

YAY for you Jonni! Looks like a great bike! I personally prefer men's bikes myself. Need to get mine out and checked over for riding . . it's been a long winter!
Looking forward to seeing your gussy-up pics!

That bike is a treasure! Can't wait to see you girly it up a bit! I have two vintage bicycles, both with baskets. I use one to exercise my dogs and one to go shopping with!

$30? What a great find, Jonni. You can't beat that. I need to find a bike now so I can ride up to Mt. Cove Farm and back. Only 10 miles. But I've been wanting to do that since I 've lived out here. I hope you have many nice bike rides to come.
