Hi everyone....
I've been a member for a while now, but unable to find my way around. I hope I'm successful at at least introducing myself. I feel like a newbie and am looking forward to getting to know you all.
I live half the time in Italy, and half the time in California, going back and forth every 3-4 months. In California, I live in suburbia and in Italy I have a very small piece of land that is home to a variety of animals... all girls! I have two pygmy mountain goats (Stella and Luna), a dozen chickens (one of whom is named Phyllis, after Phyllis Diller due to her lovely plume), two geese (yet to be named) a little terrier mix named Lulu Valentina, and an array of strays that find their way in and out here on a frequent basis.
I'm a farm girl at heart... and I'm an artist. Even if only in my mind.
I hope you will write to me and introduce yourselves. I look forward to hearing all your stories.
xoxo

Hi Leslie! Welcome to the farm! I am so glad to met you! As you start finding your way around, I have a suggestion of what helped me when I first started... up on the top right of your screen, above your log-in name, is an "active topics" button. Most of the time, after I sign in, I click that button. It will pull up all the topics that have been commented on since the last time you signed in. This was helpful for me to not feel overwhelmed when I first started coming to the Farm, and I still use it quite frequently! Anyways, hope that helps, and I look forward to getting to know you :)

Welcome, Leslie --- Yes, the "Active Topics" is a good way to start! At some point, I found my way to "my" group, which is the Over 50 Farmgirls. I have made such good friends here. Lots in common (and lots of differences) so we all have a good time. Enjoy browsing!

Welcome to the group Leslie! You did great at introducing yourself and will soon find it easier to get around here. It sounds like you are a very busy women going back and forth between your two homes and taking care of all those animals. Italy sounds like such a great place to live. I would love to visit there someday. Looking forward to getting to know you better.

Hi Leslie,

Welcome. I am original from southern California...Glendale. I am interested in what kind of art do you like to do? I like to make jewelry and would love to learn how to make metal art someday but for right now my main passion is decoupage.

Welcome to the farm Leslie. What an interesting life you lead with so much travel. I have a grand daughter born in Rome. She lives in Ireland now. It is really fun to get to know one another. I am a quilt-maker living in a medium size city. I garden, have koi fish, two cats and a husband. We raise bonsai trees, vegetables and flowers. I love to draw and read. I majored in journalism and foods in college. I taught art, quilting, cooking and sewing. Glad to meet you.

Welcome Leslie from sunny Florida! We are so glad you stopped and introduced yourself. How exciting that you split your time between California and Italy! What sort of art do you make? If you can, post some photos of you little farm in Italy so we can all meet some of your critters.

Thank you for your interest in my tiny little farm. I'm not even sure it should be conSIDERED a farm, but in my mind it is, and maybe that's all that matters. Here are some photos of my life here, in Italy. I hope you will enjoy them.

There's always work to be done around here. Here, we're moving some raised beds. We "raised" them in an (unsuccessful, as you will see) attempt to keep some of our little crops safe, from Stella and Luna.

As you can see.... THAT was a ridiculous attempt! HAHAHAHAHA!!!

It's difficult to capture ALL the chickens in one shot since they move around all the time... but here are some of them. "Rooster Cogburn" is the white rooster, and Foghorn leghorn is the red one. Sadly, both of them passed away this last year... of old age.

And here are the others. Most of them anyway....

And... Introducing Phyllis!

The geese... yet to be named, and I'm open for suggestions.

The cat who just recently showed up in our yard.... Seems the word is out that we provide a loving home to strays. :)

My precious Lulu Valentina.... A rescue terror (oops! I mean terrier) mix. I don't know if we saved her, or if she saved us, but in any case... she completes our family.

And my husband, whom I frequently refer to as Peter Pan... (he's the one on the left.

Thank you so much for asking for the photos. Most people carry photos of their kids. Me? It's my animals I carry photos of.
Looking forward to reading about all of you, and looking at YOUR photos!!!

Leslie, I'm new too. I've been a member of the Heritage Jersey Organization(HJO) for about year so I know a think or two about how it works(when I first started in HJO I didn't even introduce myself in the welcome wagon because I didn't know how). But anyways, Welcome!

Hello Leslie!!! A dual life! How very interesting. We will be back and forth between our home in the woods and our new farm this year. But it is only a 3 hr round trip. I cannot imagine! Lol. Who takes care of the farm when you are in Cali?

Hi Alicia...
A dual life, indeed! I must say... Life in the suburbs of Los Angeles is more than a far cry from living in Italy! It's like having a driveway that is 6,000 miles long. I go from one home to the other. Cooking, laundry, gardening... there are constants in both places. Fortunately! Otherwise, I would feel I spend my whole life on vacation!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!
You'll have you're work cut out for you, too!
We are very fortunate to have not only our best friend living right next door. Quite frankly, it was his idea to begin with, to have all the animals and create a "farm", rather than just have land. He helps us out when we're away and doesn't mind at all. At least that's what he says. :)
Tell me about your farm? How much time do you plan on spending in each place, and who will be helping you?

Hi Leslie, I'm a Farm girl at Heart! It's so nice to read your post! Your life sounds amazing!!! I have been a "newbie" for years now; so I'm really glad I followed your post; because; thanks to the other Farm Girls; I now have a direction to go with the suggestion of the "Active Topic" button! Thank you all!!! Leslie; your dog is very similar to our "Pixie" She rescued my "Husband!" She makes him laugh every day; as he plays tug-of-war or "Red Dot" (laser) with her!!! We live in a small town; and we live on a regular city lot(1/3 acre) But, I think of it; as our little farm!

Hi Kristine!!!
Your Pixie is aDORable!!!!! And yes! She looks just like my Lulu only both of Pixie's ears are up. LOL!!! I understand, all too well, how the animals rescue US! Lulu rescued me, for sure!!! 1/3 acre, or 13 acres... It's what you make of it that counts. It's nice to meet you, and I hope to chat again sometime. By the way... you didn't mention where you live? When I'm in California, I live in Studio City. :)
