My cat of 11 plus years passed away about 3 weeks ago - so my daughter found 2 replacements kittys to help fill the void - but the problem was her friend was carrying in one kitty in the house (and not the cat carrier) and it started freaking out so she dropped him on the grass and off he runs. The other sibling kitty made it into the house. But I just needs suggestions on how to find the lost sibling.

So far I have done the following
- placed a hav-a-heart with can cat food and a towel that we rubbed on the sibling for sent and placed inside the trap
- placed 2 cat carriers (that they orginally were in) in various locations with towels that have sibling scent on
- flyers with picture completely around the block and local businesses
- cat litter from the sibling litter box placed in field
- I have walked and walked calling and sometimes not calling or just ringing a bell or clicking a can opener

Any more suggestions - would be appreciated

Oh gosh.........I think you have thought of everything. Kitties can hide for a long time, once while moving, we stayed with my Mom for a couple weeks. We didn't see my kitty for nearly all that time and we thought she had gotten outside when we weren't aware. As it turned out, she was behind the freezer for all that time. She didn't eat, drink or potty! So, the morral of this long story is don't give up hope, she just be really scared!

Yes, once my kitty got into the garage and we didn't know it. Had company and they held the door open longer than us. That night when I could find her, I freaked out! I looked and looked, we cried, we called, I drove around with a flashlight - hopeing to see little bright eyes in the night. After 6 hours, my husband said, let's just go to bed, and we'll look again tomorrow. I couldn't. So I just kept looking, calling, and finally went out in the garage, and looking around everything, I finally see those little eyes behind the washer. She wouldn't move. I sat out there, with love, food, calling, and finally I had my husband move the washer, and I grabbed her little butt!!!!! They are stinkers at hiding! So keep it up! Just do what you can!

Happy Holidays, and sure hope it all happens for you!

could you maybe put the sibling in the carrier on a porch for a little bit(in the shade with food/water and perhaps the missing sibling will hear it calling out?
just a thought..don't know if it would work or not, but perhaps if it could hear the other one calling out, maybe, just maybe it didn't run away too far.
Best of wishes.

Well we just found Moses!! (his name was earl but we didnt like that name). We found in a neighbor's garage out back up in the eaves. We kept on calling him and couldnt reach him - and then my daughter got near him and grabbed him and held on tight. Right now he is in my daughters bedroom getting spoiled.

What we do to keep new kitties in the barn is put butter on their feet and by the time they have licked the butter off all 4 feet they think they are home. MB

Now that you have found your kitty (thank goodness), after the two have settled in the house for a few months, you might want to take them outside on supervised trips around the house and yard so they know the "lay of the land" so to speak if they are to continue to be inside kitties. We have a set of siblings - George and Gracie - and we have done that periodically over the 3 years of having them. It has paid off, Gracie slipped outside this summer and we didn't know, but she came back up the front door and porch trying to get back in - so she knew where we were. George slips out every once in a while out the back, again he knows where the front and rear doors are to get back in and if we call he comes. They never go far from the house, usually under a car in the carport or under the front porch.

Glad you found your kitty.

I'm so happy your kitty is back! Smudge sounds like she's happy, too, to see the furry fella. Give 'em both a few pets on the head from me and my kitties.

Oh, Becky--I'm so very glad Moses has been found! Nothing like fear and grief to cement a relationship! He and Smudge are so fortunate.

Becky~~I am so glad for you and your kitties. I know when they are scared they like to hide and hide.

Mary Beth~~does the butter thing really work? I am thinking of getting a couple of kitties for a new shed we have planned and wasn't sure how to establish this place as home. I will be looking for free kitten signs so that I can get siblings so if that works it would be simple to do.

Mag, It has always worked for us. The kitties may hide in the barn or be real timid for a little while but none ever has run away. And this has been many cats over many years. We like our kitties too so they knew they had a good home. good luck, MB
