Does anyone know anything about this breed or have them? I've been doing some research. They are adorable! Supposed to be very good for the beginner, gentle disposition, easy care, etc. Wool is like cashmere and is supposed to be a good mix with alpaca to strengthen the alpaca yarn. They are on the watch list for endangered breeds but the numbers are coming up. I'd really like to have a couple to start.

We have the property but would need a building, fencing, etc. There are a couple of breeders in the area -- couple of hours away. Thought I might go visit them.

Good Morning Kay
We have raised these wonderfull sheep for 10 years now and they have been a true joy. I purchased my set of three from the National Western Stock Show. I decided to purchased the Grand Champion flock which was a ram and three expecting ewes. Then I purchased the first place flock from as it just so happened from another farm at that same show. We came home with the best of the best and what loves. I too picked them because they were small and so where my children. We where new to sheep and I wanted to also have a niche market - they have the best meat, crimpy fleece, good milkers/mothers and I was not going to have to struggle with something that weighted a ton. Their Teddy Bear face makes them look like they are smiling all the time. We no longer breed them and the one we have left our members of our family but do your homework, go to shows and farms and please feel free to email me privately if you have more questions. There is also a magazine for Southdowns but they mostely deal with their giants they have created, there are still some of us who deal only with the babydoll size. Good luck and give those sheep a kiss from me.

Grace and Jo -- thanks so much for the input. I'm going to do lots of research as the only animals I've ever had are cats and dogs! Plus it will take me until probaby the end of summer to get the money saved to buy them! Grace I'll probably be emailing you soon! Hugs!
