I just put a little bit of the BS in my palm, make a paste (in the shower) and rub it in. Let it "sit" a bit while I scrub other parts....then rinse. Then I shake my vinegar bottle over my hair, it comes out in little (like a red wine vinegar bottle does)....and then I rinse that out. DONE.
It really can't get easier than that. I don't mix up anything ahead of time. Must run...dinner needs to be prepped!

Ok, I wanted to give this a bump on Earth day and also say, I tried it again, this time with great results. I thought I wouldn't be able to get a comb through my hair and it was "like BUTTA!!!" Yee Haw!!1
I really have been trying to make a huge dent in my environmental, frugal, better health, better planet plans and this is great!!!
  Cheers, Heather

I am! I've been doing this since August of last year. I don't think I'll ever go back to shampoo and conditioner. My hair is so much softer and nicer since starting this!

                      | I started doing it after I found this thread last February and I haven't stopped. My routine is baking soda wash, then acv rinse, then honey leave in. I do it every 2-3 days, and just wash my hair out with water the other days. My hair is very fine and straight, not the curly hair the formula was originally recommended for. But it seems to work well. I like not being dependent on shampooing every day. I haven't worked out a good system for traveling yet, and I'm planning a trip for the end of May so I'll need one soon. |

Does anyone's hair smell from not using Poo?
That is what holds me back from using it. Mine smells nasty-like dirty greasy hair if it isn't washed every day. I can't stand the smell.

Mine smells a little like vinegar for a short time but it dissipates. I always use lavendar body spray anywho, so that leaves a nice scent.

I found the no poo shampoo article on the web. It tells how to wash and rinse your hair-bakingsoda paste only down at the roots, vinegar only on the ends. It also says that at first your hair will look limp and oily. Bit after a few days it will look great. I have donw this for about a month and my fine, thin hair is thicker and it is more manageable. If you wash once with a regular shampoo you dave to start all over with the limp and oily look.

One of my guys friends with amazing, super-curly hair swears by this and he is a river rat (I mean that nicely!). He is constantly in his kayak in the river with a helmet on and his hair always looks fabulous. He's been bugging me to try this for a few months now so tonight I will give it a whirl!

Guess you could say I haven't used conventional shampoos for years!
My hair is so fine (naturally curly when short). So finding hair products that work is an experimental thing.
I have posted before about the natural dog shampoo. Seriously.
No harsh chemicals and it actually keeps my hair clean for a few days longer than other products.
I don't wash my hair every day. Sometimes I can go 4-5 days. It's so fine. That, and I don't blow it dry or add styling products. Have been doing it like this for 15 or so years.
I'm curious to try the baking soda... |

                      | Ok. I am going to jump on the bandwagon and try this out. But, I have a question first. Do I wet my hair first before I add the baking soda and water? Or, do I put it directly on my dry hair? |

Thanks Alee! Well, I tried it and I liked it. I have to admit, I was skeptical at first. I liked the feel of my hair, sooo soft and practically tangle free. I always have to put a cream on my hair besides the conditioner because my hair is so unmanageable. Not this time. I used the Baking Soda/Water combo then the vinegar rinse followed by the honey and water mixture. I called my daughter who is away at the University and told her all about this method. Her reply was, "OH MOM!" I told her, "Don't knock it until you try it." She agreed to give it a try.

I'm a few years late to this forum but I decided to stop using shampoo 3 weeks ago. I'm starting to go a little crazy over here! My hair was fine at first but now it's very dull and gets greasy very easily. I don't know if I should just deal with it or give in and use some shampoo! I've been using baking soda with water and a ACV rinse with lavender oil and rosemary in it. The last few days have been the worst. I also noticed my hair gets staticy and frizzy since trying this experiment. Putting a little bit of coconut oil at the ends has helped a little bit but not totally. I want this to work!! |

You don't need to use the ACV every time, it will make it more "greasy".
I also really like using baking soda, and never had a problem with it. Till I was on vacation in Branson Mo. They have EXTREMELY soft water, so soft it was often hard for me to get the soap to come off my hands when I would wash my hands after using the bathroom. I just couldn't get my hair "clean" with baking soda there at all, it was greasy the whole vacation and that was after me using only baking soda at home for years by that time.
So....I learned that sometimes the water has to do with it. I ended up wanting pictures on vacation with out greasy hair, and broke down and bought some "shampoo".
So either it could be soft water, OR it could be your hair adjusting, or it could be you are using ACV each time. ACV only needs to be used for conditioning...obviously if you are having "grease" you have plenty of oil and don't need "conditioning".
At the same time though I find that if I put just a small amount of ACV in a spray bottle with lots of water, and just put a tiny bit on my "dry" hair, that it takes the static and frizz away. However, it's odd you would have greasy hair that is also frizzy and staticy......usually it's one or the other.......frizz and static is usually associated with dry.........greasy is not dry. hmmm...

It's almost like the top gets kind of greasy and the middle/ends are pretty dry/staticy. I'm wondering if I just need more time to adjust to this whole thing or experiment more with how much baking soda and ACV I use. Thanks for the advice on the ACV. Maybe I'll just spray a little on my ends.
I really don't want to give up on this so I'll tough it out for a while longer! |
