Julie (willowtreecreek) was interested in hearing a snippet of the CD I have for sale in my Etsy shop (http://resolutelyoutmoded.etsy.com), and I said that I would try to get a sound clip up on a website for anyone who is interested. However, this is proving somewhat more complicated than expected, so for the moment I would be happy to email a sound file of one of the songs ("I must and I will get married") to interested Farmgirls. I think I have the file in the right format, but I'm not positive, so I need a guinea pig. If you wouldn't mind contacting me with your email address so I can send the file and you can tell me if it plays alright, that would be lovely. Just let me know. I'd do it myself, if only my computer had sound!
For anyone who is curious, this CD contains 14 traditional folksongs sung unaccompanied by yours truly, recorded last summer in the woods here at my home. There's more information on my Etsy page.
Thank you!

Kim,
I've emailed you. Thanks for offering to help. If you can't open the sound file, I'll move on to Plan B (I'll think of something!).

Well, it seems that the sound file will open at least on Kim's computer (thank you, Kim!), so if anybody else is interested in hearing it, just contact me and I will happily email it to you.

I second Kim. Elizabeth sent me a snippet, it's beautiful. She has a lovely, clear voice.

I like your blog too, Meggie. It fits in very well with the "resolutely outmoded" theme. I fear that if I had a blog of my own, however, I would either spend every waking hour toying with it or never update it at all. Between me and the computer there is a constant battle of wills. I'm always trying to cut down on my time spent online (except for the Farmgirl Connection, naturally!), and it rarely ends well. The computer generally wins. Well, at least most of my time spent online is occupied by chatting with all these nice Farmgirls and looking at their lovely blogs! In time I hope to be able to rely much less (or not at all) on electricity, though - so if that ever happens, we'll all have to strike up "snail mail" communications. Or...there's always internet access at the local library.

Just to let everyone know - I now have the sound clip in .mp3 format, which means it ought to play on everyone's computer without any trouble. Thank you again for your interest!

Thank you, Kim. I am planning to record another CD in the near future - possibly with musical accompaniment this time. I'm thinking of various family members who are very talented on a variety of "folky" instruments...
I'll keep you informed!

Kim,
Just a note of encouragement - when people say they want to live in another time period, I always think they ought to go right ahead and do so. Take all the best things of the past and bring them into your life today as often as you can. Be Resolutely Outmoded! Can you tell I'm on a mission to escape the modern world?

- Elizabeth Ann

P.S. I can tell that you would probably enjoy seeing the photos of the "Pioneer Week" my friends and I put together last summer. I'll try to find a way to post them sometime in the next few days.

Kim and Aunt Jenny,
I have uploaded thirty-something photographs of the Pioneer Week to Flickr. Here is the link to the photos:

http://flickr.com/photos/emmabirdwhistle/sets/72157594581307654/

This was actually my second Pioneer Week. When I first had the idea, I was only 13 years old and my participating friends were even younger, so it wasn't quite the most successful thing I've ever planned (meaning we only spent one night in the cabin, which was a great deal spookier back then than it is now, and my father had to sleep in a very modern tent in the nearby clearing which rather spoiled the view, and on Day Two it rained and we all "got in a bad mood" as my friend put it in the video of the proceedings, so we ended up driving into town and spending the day at a pioneer village, and then coming back to the more civilized house and watching a movie). But we certainly had fun! This time around, there were only three of us - my sister and I and a mutual friend - and the whole thing came off a lot more successfully. We're planning to do it again this summer. So enjoy the photos! I only wish there was one of our first lunchtime picnic in the back field, which was absolutely idyllic. But one doesn't want to be waving cameras around all the time when one is trying to behave like a pioneer.
