change...
well...since my hubby and I have been trying to leave the city for oh gracious going on about 3 yrs now..with no real success...
didn't seem like jobs were really ever in the areas we were looking to want to relocate to....(at least not the type of job that my husband is skilled at)
then all of the sudden an unexpected medical issue about a week ago that will have to be dealt with...
We sat down together the other evening and really discussed the things that had made us want to "run away"..I guess you could call it...
Seems there are always things in life that tend to bring a big disappointment...be it the way people have treated you in the past/a loss of a social cicle,etc.(all things that we have experienced within the last 6 yrs..won't get into the details..but suffice it to say..something that was a bit traumatic to our family)
Things that had caused us to want to just pull up roots and go elsewhere...
Anyhow...we really had a good talk..and of course with the recent medical incident..and a few other added stresses in life...
We started looking at the things in the city that we actually have been blessed with...
a very nice house,
a rather large sized yard(not quite an acre..but a rather good sized older lot) that we have been able to create a sanctuary that actually has alot of privacy..and does feel like one is "in the country"
I am able to homeschool my children here without any interference from others.
Plus alot of other good 'plusses"
So..we decided that unless alot of things change..we shall learn to be content with the things we have been blessed with for now.
It really seemed that after the talk ..that a big weight was lifted from both of us...
I had not realized just how much stress it had been giving my husband in the areas of:
"how will I have enough money to make a move to another state"
how will I get a business that is doing fairly well here..reestablished in a new town?"
"what about a job?/supporting a family of 5?"
"what if something medical happens to me in a strange town?"
and alot of other things that I had not known prior to our talk..had been really stressing him about the whole.."moving/relocating/finding a home and land"" thing.
And funny thing..is... it really lifted a weight off of me too..I had not realized how stressed I was about everything too.("the ..I've got to get the house ready to put on the market" thing, plus other things)
So...bottom line..although I am a farmgirl at heart..I can be a farmgirl at heart anywhere...
I'm really blessed here...in the city.
I may not be able to have geese or sheep or a cow..or things like that..
but I can grow vegetables..which I aim to do..
I can even grow things for the local farmer's market..which I'd love to do..and hope to do.
I plan on getting a hydroponics setup real soon...and may even look into getting a greenhouse.
I can have a cottage garden...which I do.
I can make everything in my home feel as country/farmgirl as I please..when I want to/how I want to.
So...I guess I have said all this to say...
Even though you may live "in the city" ...that doesn't mean that you aren't a farmgirl.
You can be content anywhere..and make your farmgirl dream come true wherever you might be.
That's what I aim to do..."in the city"..live my farmgirl dreams where I have been "planted"..and to be content with where I am.
(I guess sometimes it's hard to admit too that yep...sometimes we can get a bit of a selfish streak and want things that honestly..it's not the proper timing for...will my family ever live "in the country?" ..I don't know....but there is a saying.."I have learned to be content in whatsoever state I am in"...(I must say..I'm still learning how to do that...but getting there..smiles)
If life decides to one day see me "in the country"..well..I'll gladly take that road too..if I am given the chance.
But for now..I walk down the "city road" and I shall be one happy farmgal while doing so.

AMEN! That's a hard road to walk: dreaming, dreaming, dreaming and then realizing that you're staying put. But you ARE blessed and it's beautiful that you are able to see that. You're SO Farmgirl. Keep on keepin' on, Ms. Farmgirl Tina!

Oh Tina, I have been through that same thing so many times. Farmgirl IS a state of mind and in your HEART! You carry it everywhere. Your a farmgirl in EVERY sense of the word, a true farmgirl w/ a HUGE heart. It doesn't matter where you live, you carry it w/ you. I love Panama City, I lived in Sarasota for awhile & spent alot of time there. Its a wonderful place to be. What is important is how you & your family feel, nothing else matters. Im not on a farm either but we don't have to be & we've got this great place to come too. Your a farmgirl living where your supposed to be!

| Sounds like you guys have made a decision that really took the weight off of both your shoulders, and isn't it a good feeling to concentrate on the positives in our lives, instead of listing the negatives?? Your current home on a large lot sounds wonderful, you are raising your children as you want, and there is work to be had, which is another daily blessing. And just think, who knows who YOU will inspire to be more farmchick-like, maybe some new friend who is curious about something you do! Our havens, our nests we create for ourselves and our loved ones to live in, are wherever we are, and not necessarily waiting on some prime piece of real estate somewhere..... Amen too...I am a city/farmgirl myself. I've never lived in the country, but had the good fortune of spending a few weeks each summer on my grandparents farm in Iowa. That is what planted the farmgirl seeds in my heart. You are right, we all can learn to love and live and grow roots right where we are. We too hope to move to the country one day, but it will be an adjustment for all of us.
Your message has really affected me deeply. Thank you for your true and kind words. It is so good to see through someone else's life once in a while, to make us appreciate our own.

Tina,
So glad you both got to really talk and that the stress has been lifted. I was going through the same thing for the past two years (wanting to go backhome) and finally we just decided to be happy where we are and if it happens, so be it. If an opportunity arises, we'll check it out. But I too am so glad to have that self-imposed stress gone. So glad for you too.

Tina-Thanks for the inspirational post. I am also a farm-girl in the city. I am doing my best to make the best of what I have even though I still have goals and dreams. It is so depressing to constantly want to make changes that can't happen right away.  So I have decided not to dwell on what I don't have and accept what I have and make the best of it (I am truely blessed with a great family and a job that pays the bills and a home of my own) while making/working towards goals for the future.

that's what I am finding out it is all about..seizing the day! Enjoying the day and the way of life that we are currently given.
Contentment in the Heart..it can be a work in progress..but it's the learning to look on the "sunny side of life"
There was this old song from years back called.."Keep on the Sunny Side" and that's what I aim to do a good bit more of in my life.

Funny thing..this year when New Years day roled around..I began to think of all the resolutions that folks make..and break..and I thought to myself..I've been guilty of the making and breaking of "resolutions" so this year..I'm just going to determine that I shall be happy..and so far..so good!
