looks like a very neat cabin. I know you'll have fun making it look like "home"

Mikki, I didn't know you had a cabin, how nice is that!! Is there a picture of the outside that I missed, how big is it? Is it near where you live now? I'm confused. Not to worry I'm used to being like this. NANCY JO

Nancy, we had the Amish build it. It's only a one room cabin, and has a loft in it. It's across the creek from my home. My get away is what it will be. We are having no electric or running water. I have an antique cast iron woodburning cook stove, and primitive cupboard and writing desk. My grandma's windsor rocking chair. It will be completely primitive. A creek runs down the front just inside the wood line that faces the porch and creek also runs down behind the cabin. I'm not sure where we're going to put the outhouse yet, close by you can bet, lol. We had a back door put on so we can add a bedroom next year. I've not moved anything in yet but when I do I'll take more pics. My mom gave me an old primitive cupboard she's had for years and then I have a small whitewashed table of my grandma's where the waterbucket used to sit when I was a child. I have that same waterbucket and dipper that I will use. I'm very excited and can't wait to get moved in. I'm not sure if I'll ever want to cross the creek to come home again or not, LOL!!! ~~Blessings, Mikki

Mikki, This is so exciting, its like having a play house just for you. I can hardly wait to see the pictures when you have it all set up. Yes by all means built that out house nearby, and get yourself a big flash light in case the oil lamp doesn't work. NANCY JO

Mikki, you are so lucky! It's good too that you did the chinking between the logs. We bought our log house 5yrs ago when it was already 20yrs old and had never been chinked or anything and it cost alot to heat it. Last Fall we started blasting all the finish off the outside logs and so we ended up actually making the spaces between the logs even bigger so we've been freezing this winter. We needed to finish the work before it got too cold and didn't make it so we had to take a very long break in the work. Part of what we did will need to be redone before we can do the staining and chinking but I hope to start again soon. How I wish we had Amish people living here in Washington State!!! Our 10 acres is sort of long and skinny, 200ft wide along a big part of it, 400ft wide at the top of the hill. I badly want to make somewhat of a road through the woods up to the top of the hill and then have a get-away cabin put up there like what you had built. You are so lucky!!! Post more pictures soon. Love the door and the windows you put in and everything. Cheryl

Nancy, yep just in case the oil lamp goes out I've got a windup flashlight, lol. Cheryl, so sorry about the chinking. We had extra insulation put in floor and the gable ends. The other day when I went in there it was warm outside and very cool in the cabin, so it's working! Goodluck with yours. I had been wanting my get-away cabin for about a very long time. It's a dream come true for me for sure! ~~Blessings, Mikki

Your cabin is wonderful! Make sure to post a photo once you "move in." I enjoyed looking at the rest of your blog too, I'll be sure to check back.
