I bought 2 years worth of wool from a local lady today. Wool is supposed to be very good for the soil and can even deter slugs! It’s supposed to take about 2 years to fully break down so I am hopeful! I dug out all the leaf litter from under my raspberry canes in the front yard, put a good thick layer of loose wool down, covered the wool with old compost from last year and finally put the leaves I had raked out back on top of the compost. It should be interesting to see how the garden does this year and what weeds are like!
It is still cold here so we don't remove any leaves that overwinter because of the butterflies and such. We usually wait until it is consistently warm so we don't disturb what is living there. This wool idea is very interesting and thanks for the links Alee! Such an interesting topic!

Hi Alee! I was thinking that it had been a while since you have posted. Good to hear from you. I have never heard of that use for wool either. How is Nora doing?
Yes you can use sheep wool it keeps the weeds down as well as keeping the soil loose. You can put it in the bottom of plant containers to keep the soil from washing out through the drain holes. It disapates slowly in the soil you will find it for many years as you turn the soil over. Also hang a net with wool in the trees for the birds.. you will find it in thier nest! Use to have alot of sheep and wool!

Denise- all these leaves fell after snow fell so I was safe in moving them :). If there is a patch of leaves that was there in the fall I won’t move them until everything is awake for spring- it’s a good reminder though!
Lisa- she is doing amazing! Only one more year of school left before college! Where does time go?!
